A leading global university centred in Asia, the National University of Singapore (NUS) was founded in 1905 as a modest medical college with 23 students. Today, Singapore’s flagship university spans three campuses in Kent Ridge, Bukit Timah and Outram, and is widely seen as among the best universities in Asia and the world.

Life on Weekends

At the National University of Singapore (NUS), students enjoy a vibrant and diverse student life both on and off campus. On weekends, many students explore Singapore’s numerous attractions—visiting cultural districts like Chinatown, Little India, and Kampong Glam, or relaxing at scenic spots such as Marina Bay, Sentosa, and the Southern Ridges. Food lovers often discover new hawker centres and trendy cafes across the city. Shopping districts like Orchard Road and Bugis are also popular hangouts.

A Paradise for Food Lovers

Singapore is renowned for its vibrant and diverse food culture, reflecting the city’s rich multicultural heritage. Students can enjoy a wide variety of affordable and delicious meals at hawker centres, food courts, and neighborhood eateries across the city. Local specialties you must try include Hainanese chicken rice, a simple but flavorful dish often considered Singapore’s national dish; laksa, a spicy noodle soup with coconut milk; and chilli crab, a famous seafood delicacy. Other favorites are char kway teow (stir-fried flat noodles), satay (grilled meat skewers), and roti prata (flaky Indian flatbread served with curry).

Singapore also offers a thriving café scene and excellent international cuisine due to its status as a global city. Eating out is a big part of daily life, and food festivals and night markets are common, providing plenty of opportunities to sample new dishes.
