Green University Initiatives and Campus Environment
Chula implements environmentally responsible policies, including studies to design and renovate buildings for energy conservation and solar cell installation through the Institute of Environmental Research. The university actively creates new green areas, such as the CU Centenary Park, which serves as a multi-functional "urban forest" oasis for the public. Green initiatives extend to transportation on campus with the electric CU Pop Bus, Anywheel bike-sharing, Beam e-scooter sharing, and Muvmi EV Tuk-Tuk services, all aimed at promoting eco-friendly commutes and reducing emissions. チュラロンコン大学はタイの首都であるバンコクの中心部に位置しています。バンコクは世界一観光客の多い都市として知られ、ワットアルンやワットポーといった歴史溢れる美しいお寺やローカルなマーケットと屋台からおしゃれなショッピングセンターやカフェ、ルーフトップバーにいたるまで魅力的な場所がたくさんあります。バンコクからは古都アユタヤやパタヤといった観光地に日帰りで行くことができます。
また多文化の都市としても知られ、中華街や日本人街、アラブ街、インド人街、ポルトガル人街などがあり、一つの都市にいながら様々な文化を垣間見ることできます。特に中華街はヤワラートと呼ばれ、タイのカオスな感じと混ざり独特な雰囲気を醸し出しています。
さらにバンコクはニューヨークについで在留邦人が多く、日系企業の進出も進んでいるため、日本食や日本語の書籍、日本製の製品の調達も容易です。そして日本人コミュニティも多く存在するため、とても留学の行いやすい都市です。治安面でも一部エリアを除き基本的には良好で、夜も問題なく一人で出歩くことができます。
Chulalongkorn University is located in the heart of Bangkok, the capital of Thailand. Known as the world's most visited city, Bangkok is filled with captivating attractions, ranging from beautiful, historic temples like Wat Arun and Wat Pho, local markets, and street food stalls, to trendy shopping centres, cafes, and rooftop bars. From Bangkok, you can also easily take day trips to popular tourist destinations such as the ancient city of Ayutthaya and the beach resort of Pattaya.
The city is also renowned for its multiculturalism, featuring areas like Chinatown, Japantown, an Arab district, Little India, and a historic Portuguese quarter, allowing you to glimpse various cultures all within one city. Chinatown, in particular, is called Yaowarat and exudes a unique atmosphere, blending with the vibrant chaos of Thailand.
Furthermore, Bangkok has the second-largest community of Japanese expatriates in the world, after New York City. With a strong presence of Japanese companies, it is easy to find Japanese food, books, and products. The existence of numerous Japanese communities makes it a very welcoming and easy city for students to study abroad. In terms of safety, the city is generally secure, with the exception of a few areas, and it is typically safe to walk alone at night without any problems.

バンコクは食の都市としても世界的に知られ、グルメな人には最適の都市です。街中の屋台では1食250~500円ほどでパッタイやガパオライスといったストリートフードを食べることができ、学食ではなんと1食150円未満で各種タイ料理を食べられます。また日本では高級なマンゴーといったフルーツもとても安く手に入り、毎日マンゴースムージーを飲むといった優雅な生活を送ることができます。多くの人がタイ料理には辛いというイメージを抱いていますが、実は辛くないタイ料理も多く存在し、辛い物が苦手な人でも絶品タイ料理を楽しむことができます。ここでは学食から屋台、おしゃれなビーチのレストランまで様々な安くて美味しいグルメを紹介していきます。
Bangkok is also globally renowned as a food city, making it the perfect destination for foodies. At street stalls throughout the city, you can enjoy street food like pad thai or ga pao rice for about 250 to 500 yen per meal. At university cafeterias, you can even eat various Thai dishes for less than 150 yen per meal. Additionally, fruits like mangoes, considered a luxury fruit in Japan, are very affordable here, offering the chance to enjoy an elegant lifestyle, like drinking mango smoothies daily. While many people associate Thai cuisine with being spicy, there are actually many Thai dishes that aren't spicy at all, allowing even those who dislike spicy food to enjoy exquisite Thai cuisine. Here, we'll introduce a variety of cheap and delicious gourmet options, from university cafeterias and street stalls to stylish beachfront restaurants.
チュラロンコン大学文学部の学食のカオマンガイです。値段はなんと33バーツと150円以下で食べられます(1バーツ＝4.4円くらい)。鶏肉は臭みがなく生姜が効いていて、とてもサッパリ美味しいです。タレが選べるのもポイントです!
This is the Khao man kai (chicken rice) from the cafeteria at Chulalongkorn University's Faculty of Arts. The price is a mere 33 baht, which is less than 150 yen (1 baht ≈ 4.4 yen). The chicken has no gamey taste, is seasoned with ginger, and is very refreshingly delicious. Being able to choose your sauce is also a good point.
続いてはストリートフードです。これはムーカタというタイ式焼肉兼しゃぶしゃぶです。鍋の中央で肉や海鮮を焼き、野菜などは周りのスープに入れて煮ます。この料理の魅力はなんと言っても最後のスープです。もちろんソースにつけて食べる肉や海鮮も美味しいのですが、それらの出汁が効いた周りのスープと野菜が最高に美味しいです。パーティーみたいで楽しいので、タイに来たらムーカタも試してみてください。
Next up is street food. This is called Moo Krata, a Thai-style barbecue and shabu-shabu. You grill meat and seafood in the centre of the pot while cooking vegetables and other ingredients in the surrounding broth. The real charm of this dish is undoubtedly the soup at the end. While the meat and seafood dipped in sauce are delicious, the surrounding broth infused with their flavours and the vegetables are absolutely the best part. It's like a party and a lot of fun, so if you come to Thailand, be sure to try Moo Krata too.
最後はマンゴースティッキーライスというタイのデザートを紹介したいと思います。ご飯にマンゴー？？と思うかもしれませんがココナッツミルクで炊いた餅米とマンゴーが意外に相性が良いです。またそこに更に追いココナッツミルクソースをかけるとココナッツの濃厚な甘さとマンゴーのさっぱりとした甘さが相乗され、とても絶品です。ぜひ留学や旅行でタイに行ったら、食べてみてください！
Finally, I'd like to introduce a Thai dessert called mango sticky rice. Rice with mango?? You might think, but the sticky rice cooked in coconut milk and mango actually pair surprisingly well. Pouring additional coconut milk sauce over it enhances the rich sweetness of the coconut and the refreshing sweetness of the mango, creating a truly wonderful combination. If you ever study abroad or travel to Thailand, be sure to try it!

週末はバンコク周辺のモダンなショッピングモールやカフェから伝統的なお寺や水上マーケットを巡ったり、少し足を伸ばして日帰りでビーチや遺跡、サイクリングに出かけられます。またタイは日本と比べても物価が安いので、バンコクから電車やバスなどを使い、気軽に旅行に行くことができます。タイは観光大国なのでお寺や遺跡から、エレファントファーム、ビーチ、滝、湖、ローカルなマーケットなど行き先には困らないです。長期休みにはベトナムやカンボジア、マレーシアといった隣国にも簡単に旅行することができます。
一方旅行だけでなく、タイでは様々な課外活動も行うことができます。チュラロンコン大学にはスポーツサークルや音楽サークルはもちろんのこと、ボランティアサークルやボードゲームサークル、模擬国連など様々なサークルがあります。またボランティアの機会も豊富で、コムローイ祭りという有名なランタン祭りの運営ボランティアやスラムでの炊き出しボランティア、洪水被害の復興ボランティア、孤児院でのボランティアなど多くの貴重な経験が得られます。
その他にも日本人コミュニティへの参加やスタディツアーへの参加、ビジネスコンテストの運営など課外活動の機会はとても多いです。
On weekends, you can explore modern shopping malls and cafes around Bangkok, visit traditional temples and floating markets, or venture a bit further for day trips to beaches, ruins, or cycling. Since the cost of living in Thailand is lower than in Japan, you can easily travel from Bangkok using trains or buses. As a major tourist country, Thailand offers countless destinations — from temples and ruins to elephant farms, beaches, waterfalls, lakes, and local markets. During long holidays, you can easily travel to neighbouring countries like Vietnam, Cambodia, and Malaysia.
Beyond travelling, Thailand offers diverse extracurricular activities. Chulalongkorn University has numerous clubs, including sports, music, volunteer groups, board game clubs, and Model United Nations. Volunteer opportunities are also abundant, offering valuable experiences like helping organise the famous Loi Krathong Lantern Festival, serving meals in slums, assisting with flood recovery efforts, or volunteering at orphanages.
In addition, there are numerous extracurricular opportunities, such as joining the Japanese community, participating in study tours, or organising business competitions.

タイの主要言語はタイ語(ภาษาไทย)ですが、バンコクをはじめとした観光地では英語が通じることが多いです。またバンコクは日本人も多く、日本に興味のあるタイ人も多いので日本語も通じる場合もあります。また留学生が履修できる大学の授業のほとんどは英語であり、タイの大学生は英語が流暢な人が多いので、英語が話せれば生活には全く問題ありません。しかしタイ語ができた方が、よりローカルな体験ができたり、タイ人と仲良くなりやすかったりとメリットは多いです。
治安については基本的に良好です。特にチュラロンコン大学の周辺は夜でも1人で出歩くことができるくらい安全です。タイはなんとなく危なさそうと思われる方もいるかもしれませんが、繁華街の路地裏といった日本でも危険そうなところさえ避ければ安全です。しかしトゥクトゥクやタクシーでのぼったくりといった被害は絶えないので、GrabやLINE MANといった配車アプリを使うことおすすめします。
The primary language in Thailand is Thai (ภาษาไทย), but English is widely understood in tourist areas like Bangkok. Additionally, Bangkok has a large Japanese population, and many Thais are interested in Japan, so Japanese may also be understood in some cases. Furthermore, most university courses available to international students are taught in English, and many Thai university students speak English fluently. Therefore, if you can speak English, you will have no problems whatsoever in daily life. However, knowing Thai offers many advantages, such as enabling more authentic local experiences and making it easier to befriend Thai people.
Safety is generally good. The area around Chulalongkorn University, for instance, is safe enough to walk alone at night. While Thailand might seem somewhat dangerous to some, it's safe as long as you avoid places that seem risky, like back alleys in busy districts — places that would be dangerous in Japan too. However, scams like overcharging by tuk-tuks and taxis are common, so using ride-hailing apps like Grab or LINE MAN is recommended.

チュラロンコン大学に留学した場合は月平均12万円程度の支出がかかります。これはチュラロンコン大学の寮に一人で部屋を借り、毎日3食外食し、月に１、２回旅行にいった場合の支出です。そのため節約すれば月10万以内に収めることも十分可能です。欧米圏と比べて生活費は大幅に少なく済みます。また東南アジアは全体的に物価が低いので一回当たりの旅行にかかるコストも小さく、気軽に旅行に行きやすいです。
1年間の支出
私は1年間（正確には10か月半）の支出は海外旅行保険を含めて約170万円でした。長期休みに旅行を多くしたため必要以上にかかってしまいましたが、旅行の頻度を下げればほとんどの支出は奨学金でカバーできると思います。
Monthly Expenses
Studying at Chulalongkorn University costs an average of about ¥120,000 per month. This covers renting a single room in the university dormitory, eating out three meals a day, and travelling once or twice a month. Therefore, it's entirely possible to keep monthly expenses under ¥100,000 by cutting back. Compared to Western countries, living costs are significantly lower. Additionally, Southeast Asia has generally low prices, making travel per trip affordable and easy to do casually.
Annual Expenses
My total expenses for one year (actually 10 and a half months), including overseas travel insurance, were approximately ¥1.7 million. I spent more than necessary because I travelled extensively during long breaks, but if you reduce the frequency of travel, most expenses should be covered by your scholarship.
