世界各国から集まる留学生がキャンパスライフを彩り、多様で国際的なコミュニティを形成しています。マオリ文化を学ぶ授業もあります。
大学はAskOtagoとよばれるサポートセンターや、Uniflats Officeとよばれるシェアハウスを統括するオフィスを通して、留学生を学習面だけでなく生活面でも手厚く支援しています。
英語を母国語としない留学生向けの講座も開設するなど、初めての留学でも安心して学び、成長できる環境が整っています。
International students from all over the world enrich campus life and create a diverse, global community. There are also classes where students can learn about Māori culture.
The university provides strong support for international students not only academically but also in daily life through services such as AskOtago, a student support center, and the Uniflats Office, which manages student flats.
Courses designed for students whose first language is not English are also offered, ensuring an environment where even first-time study-abroad students can learn and grow with confidence.

大半の留学生は、オタゴ大学の所有するUniflatsと呼ばれるシェアハウスで生活します。
Uniflatsは、留学生や国内の学生が共に暮らすフラットスタイルの住居です。各フラットにはKiwi Hostと呼ばれるオタゴ大学の正規学生が1人配置され、現地文化に触れながら安心して生活を始められるようサポートしてくれます。また、Uniflats Officeが学生生活全般をサポートしており、安心して留学生活を送ることができます。
Uniflatsの暮らしは、国際的な交流の場です。キッチンやリビングを共有することで、フラットメイトと一緒に勉強や料理をしたり、パーティーを開いたりできます。さらに、Uniflats Office主催のイベントも頻繁に企画され、他のフラットに住む留学生との交流も可能です。
大学での学問だけでなく、留学生としての日常生活までサポートしてくれる手厚さはオタゴ大学の強みと言えます。

Uniflats
Most international students live in shared houses owned by the University of Otago, known as Uniflats.
Uniflats are flat-style accommodations where international and domestic students live together. Each flat has one “Kiwi Host,” a full-time Otago student who helps new residents settle in and experience local culture comfortably. In addition, the Uniflats Office provides comprehensive support for student life, ensuring a safe and smooth study-abroad experience.
Life in Uniflats offers a vibrant space for international exchange. By sharing kitchens and living rooms, flatmates can study together, cook meals, or host parties. The Uniflats Office also organizes frequent events, allowing students to connect with residents of other flats as well.
This strong support system—covering not only academic life but also everyday living—is one of the University of Otago’s major strengths.

週末は、オタゴ地方へ旅行に行くことが多いです。
大学近くには、オタゴ地方のみに生息する野生のペンギンを観察するツアーに参加できるPenguin Place、特徴的な石が見られるビーチMoeraki Bouldersがあり、フラットメイトと出かける留学生も多いです。
少し足を伸ばせば、クライストチャーチ、クイーンズタウンといった都市へ遊びにいくことも可能です。クイーンズタウンはニュージーランドで有名なリゾート地で、冬はスキー・スノーボードが楽しめます。
On weekends, many students take trips around the Otago region.
Near the university, there are attractions such as Penguin Place, where visitors can join tours to observe wild penguins unique to the Otago area, and Moeraki Boulders, a beach famous for its distinctive spherical stones. Many international students enjoy visiting these spots with their flatmates.
Traveling a bit farther makes it possible to visit cities like Christchurch and Queenstown. Queenstown is one of New Zealand’s most famous resort destinations, where skiing and snowboarding can be enjoyed during winter.

Dunedin’s food culture has developed through a blend of traditions brought by Scottish immigrants and the abundant natural resources of New Zealand’s South Island. Visitors can enjoy dishes made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients.
Popular foods include seafood-based fish and chips, meat pies, New Zealand’s famous lamb dishes, and a variety of dairy products such as cheese and ice cream. The city is also known for its strong coffee culture, with numerous cafés offering stylish café food. Many cafés are lively from early morning, filled with students, locals, and tourists.
In addition, the cheese roll—made by rolling cheese in thin slices of bread and grilling it—is a beloved traditional dish of the South Island. It can be found in many cafés throughout the city.
