In this week I researched about today’s situation of indigenous people in the world. I didn’t know that there are a lot of indigenous people all over the world. A report said Asian countries have a biggest indigenous population in the world. But I think that is very natural thing, because Asian countries have a biggest population in the world, and there are a lot of nations (or people?) in Asian countries. So I think I have to research about the definition of indigenous people, who or what organization decide or recognize the nations and people as indigenous people. In this week, I also research about other countries situation, In Canada, Unites States, Australia, and New Zealand / Aotearoa. I think biggest issue is ‘name’. For example, American Indian and Native American issue. An article said that according to survey, some tribes of them want to be called American Indian than Native American. And Eskimo and Inuit have same problem. Discriminatory sounds of them are problem, maybe, but some groups say A has the sound, another group say B has, and the other group say both of them have not. So the problem became complicated. It is very difficult for me.
