We recently interviewed 2x All-Star, Rookie of the Year, World Series Champion and MVP third baseman Kris Bryant. Most people know Kris Bryant as a far hitting, play making machine, but lots of work is put in for his success in games. We were so thankful to have interviewed the Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant.
Kristopher Lee Bryant was born January 4, 1992. Kris attended University of San Diego and played on the Toreros. The Chicago Cubs selected Kris in the 2013 Major League of Baseball Draft where his career got started. He played in the minor leagues for a year and a half and was brought up to the Major League in 2015. That same year he recorded insane numbers and won Rookie of the Year. The next season he recorded 42 home runs, over 100 RBI, won the World Series against the Cleveland Indians and clinched MVP.
His workouts are very intense and involve lots of skill and strength. Right when Kris walks into the gym, he starts stretching so he does not get hurt. He starts off his workout with jumping jacks. Then he goes into lunges, which strengthen and loosen his legs. His next workout is box jumps. He gets a 4ft box and jumps up and down for around 2 minutes. He then moves on to plank medicine ball slaps. He goes down in a plank position and slams the ball with one hand at a time. Next it's time for ropes. Grabbing two ends of a rope, he starts slamming the two ends at different times: left, right, left, right, left, etc. He then gets ready for catching and fielding drills. Coach Dave Martinez hits rapid fire ground balls to Kris to make his glove hand quicker. Then Kris places his elbow on his glove and flicks his wrist while he releases the ball. He eventually gets farther away from his teammate playing catch with him. He ends his throwing after 20 minutes. This is called “long toss” and is used to strengthen his arm.
Staying in shape is a key point to Kris’s success. To stay in shape, Kris eats healthy food. These foods include chicken, fish, pasta, vegetables and no products that contain added sugar. Kris says after a game he grabs a bite of cold chicken and a bowl of warm pasta. No wonder Kris is in such great shape.
We asked Kris what his two favorite things about Chicago are. Kris’s favorite thing about Chicago is that he lives in an apartment and gets to wake up to a skyline view every morning, which he has never experienced because he lived on a farm as a kid. His second favorite thing about Chicago is that there are steak restaurants everywhere. He told us that whenever he has family or friends over, they go to Rosebud Steakhouse.
Kris recently got married to Jess Delp. The wedding was held in Las Vegas, Nevada where they first met. He told us that at that very moment when he was in front of all of his family, teammates and friends, he was the most nervous he had ever been in his life, even more than the final play of the World Series
We enjoyed talking with All-Star third baseman Kris Bryant and wish him luck in the upcoming season.
