Import contacts
Walk-through of the process of importing contacts
Checklist for the file to import
Has headers for each column (i.e the fields you want to import: "Name", "Email", "Company" etc). Email and unsubscribe status are mandatory, all other fields optional.
You don't need to name them exactly the same as in FunnelBud, you'll map each column field to the correct field in FunnelBud at the import stage.
If you have select fields (such as drop-down menus, checkbox groups or radio buttons) the value in the cell needs to be the exact same value as the field in FunnelBud (including capital letters and spaces). The easiest way to achieve this is to copy the value of the custom field in FunnelBud, see video on how to do that here.
Make sure the file is downloaded/exported as a CSV file in UTF-8 format. This is the standard format when saving as a CSV file but in some softwares you have the option to choose which format you want to set. Click here to watch How to Save Excel Spreadsheet as a CSV File
The list and the email addresses mustn't be bought or purchased.
Make sure the email address doesn't have any special characters (such as å, ä, ö) since they will be removed in the import process. I.e ölands.äpple@demo.com will become lands.pple@demo.com once you import it.
Headers
Example of how the list should look like in Excel, with headers for each column:
Subscribe status
In your contact sheet to import you should always have subscribed status if it's new contacts that are imported. You set it by adding a column "Subscribe Status" and mark each contact as either a 1 or a 0.
0= They are subscribed
1= They are unsubscribed
Map this field to "Do Not Contact" in FunnelBud Go
Adding contacts to a segment
You should always import contacts to a temporary segment in case something goes wrong in the import. Then all contacts will be gathered and you can easily modify them if needed. Name the segment "Import [date]".
Once the import is done and you've confirmed it's correct by checking some of the imported contacts to see if all the data is in place you can delete the segment.
If you want to import contacts to several segments you'd need to do several imports. Make the first one to the temporary Import segment, confirm that the import was successful and then import the list again, adding the other segment instead.
How to add contacts to a segment when importing:
You choose which segment to import to when you're mapping your fields
Duplicate contacts in the csv file
If you have multiple entrances with the same email address in your csv file only one contact will be imported. If the entrances have different data, the last entrance will overwrite the others. The only exception to this is company field, and the contact will instead have multiple companies attached to their contact record.
How to add single contacts
Sometimes you just want to add a single contact and not import a whole list. Watch the video to see how it's done.
