September 5th, 2025 - Volume 5
Dear Viking Families,
Welcome to September! As we settle into the rhythm of a new school year, I’m filled with gratitude and excitement for all that lies ahead. Our theme this year, “Together We Lead, Together We Rise,” is already coming to life in our classrooms, hallways, and community events. At Vickery Creek, we are a community igniting the joy of learning and inspiring leaders—and it shows!
This month, we’re focusing on Habit 1: Be Proactive from the Leader in Me framework. Students are learning what it means to take responsibility for their actions, choices, and learning. We encourage families to talk about this habit at home and celebrate proactive behavior together!
Please join me in congratulating Andrea Harris, our 2025–2026 Teacher of the Year! Ms. Harris exemplifies dedication, creativity, and leadership in everything she does. We’re also proud to announce that she is our August Spirit of the Viking Award recipient—an honor given to any staff based on our monthly focus. August was the Core Paradigms, and Ms. Harris is our first recipient of this award. Please vote for September's Spirit of the Viking below!
We’re thrilled to kick off our PTO Boosterthon fundraiser on September 9th and the Boosterthon run will be on September 17th! This exciting event not only promotes fitness and fun but also helps us raise money for important school initiatives. Check out the video below to see what monies raised will go to this year.
We’re excited to welcome families back into the building for lunch with your child on Monday, September 8. It’s a wonderful opportunity to connect with your child during the school day and see the joy of learning in action. We can’t wait to see you! Please note the safety reminders of our building below.
We hope everyone enjoyed a restful Labor Day weekend. We are grateful for the hard work and dedication of all our families, staff, and community members who make our school a special place to learn and grow.
Our after-school programs are officially underway! From art club to robotics, there’s something for every Viking to explore. We’ve also launched Precess before school—a great way for students to get moving, connect with friends, and start the day energized.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership. Together, we are building a school where every child feels seen, heard, and empowered to lead. Please note the MRA Fall Survey linked below. Our goal is to have 190 families fill it out! This survey drives our focus for the year and your voice is invaluable in that decision.
With gratitude and care,
Elizabeth Ihle

🎉 Celebrating Our 2025–2026 Teacher of the Year! 🎉
Dear Vickery Creek Elementary Families and Community,
We are thrilled to announce that Mrs. Andrea Harris has been named VCE’s Teacher of the Year for 2025–2026!
Mrs. Harris was selected through a thoughtful process that began with staff nominations and voting. A committee made up of representatives from our Parent Lighthouse Team (PLT), Local School Council (LSC), PTO, a county office representative, and last year’s Teacher of the Year conducted classroom observations and interviews. While the decision was incredibly difficult due to the outstanding finalists, Mrs. Harris stood out for her deep commitment to students and her inspiring leadership.
With over 30 years of experience in education, Mrs. Harris has taught at Sugar Hill Elementary, First Baptist Cumming Preschool, Bridgeway Christian Academy, and has been a beloved part of the VCE family since 2013. She has taught 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades, always with a heart for nurturing the whole child.
Her approach to teaching beautifully reflects the Leader in Me’s 5 Core Paradigms, which is why she also is receiving our first Spirit of the Viking Award.
She sees every child as a leader.
She believes everyone has genius.
She models that change starts with me.
She empowers students to lead their own learning.
And she fosters a culture where educators and students partner together.
Mrs. Harris is known for her nurturing spirit, her ability to inspire both students and colleagues, and her willingness to step into leadership roles—whether it’s leading the school garden, mentoring student teachers, or supporting our school community in countless ways.
She is lovingly supported by her husband Rick, daughter Elizabeth, and son-in-law Marshall, who cheer her on every step of the way.
Please join us in congratulating Mrs. Andrea Harris on this well-deserved honor. She is a shining example of what it means to lead with heart, and we are so proud to celebrate her as our Teacher of the Year!

What Is the MRA?
The Measurable Results Assessment is a rigorously developed survey tool used to annually collect, analyze, and report student-, staff-, and school-level outcomes related to the focus on improving leadership, culture, and academics.
Leader in Me Schools use the MRA as they engage in continuous cycles of improvement to identify its strengths and weaknesses, develop improvement plans, and monitor progress.
The MRA measures are aligned with the highly effective practices outlined in the Leader in Me Framework. This alignment empowers schools to move from data insights to action plans and best leverage their limited time and resources to meet their most important goals.
Below are the results from our MRA Survey from Fall 2024. We focused on the three lowest categaories throughout the school year. Our goal is to have 190 people complete the MRA Survey for this year. Your participation is greatly appreciated.
