January 23rd, 2026 - Volume 12
Dear Viking Families,
This past Monday we enjoyed the day off to remember and honor Dr. Martin Luther King and his life and work. The West Community of schools held a collection to provide donations of socks, underwear, stuffed animals, and basic cosmetic needs for DFACS and Foster Families of Forsyth. Members of the West Community met at our school to build these kits. We packaged a total of 19 boxes with approximately 475 kits total. Our Student Lighthouse Team helped organize this effort at VCE and both members of our Student and Parent Lighthouse Team helped advertise, collected, and built these kits. See the pictures below! A big thank you to Ms. Crouse and her help with this initiative. It was a great show of community service for local students in need. At the same time, our Parent Lighthouse Team rallied volunteers to help spread mulch! Southern Landscape Supply has donated two truck fulls of mulch to help us kick start our Habit Garden. Keep an eye out for more opportunities to get involved with this initiative.
Recently, our CCRPI scores were released from the state and we are so proud of our students and teachers for the growth they demonstrated! We increased scores in so many areas. See the Halftime Reflection presentation that has specific CCRPI and iReady schoolwide information. Our LSC met yesterday and learned from Dr. Amy Bartlett and Katye Carlson, from our Teaching and Learning Department. They shared all about why we are focused on literacy as a county, the legislation that supports this critical work, and how VCE is doing comparatively. Their presentation is also linked below.
Our new playground equipment for both playgrounds are now in and operational! Although we experienced a delay on our k-2 side (and still are unable to play on due to weather), we are thrilled they are both open for play. Pictures will be shared next newsletter! Our next PTO event is our Valentine Family Dance. This is a long standing tradition and I remember attending with my own children. Be sure to visit PT Board to sign up to attend with your family. It is no cost, but you will need wristbands to attend. This event is for VCE families only.
Please keep an eye on the weather this weekend. In the newsletter below is all the information you need to find out latest updates and process to make this decision. If you or your family is in need of any assistance, that information is in there, too. I'm wishing all of you a warm and safe weekend.

Our PLT (Parent Lighthouse Team) serves to build the bridge between school and home to bring the 8 Habits to families. Through collaboration, education, and leaeership they aim to build a strong community of confident, joyful learners and compassionate leaders. They have been instrumental in helping us partner with other Leader In Me schools who need warm clothes putting our lost & found items to good use. They are currenlty leading the efforts to create a VCE Habit Garden in the front of our school. You may notice some new rocks and a large pallet of stones - all part of the bigger plan to beautify our space with the 8 Habits and the framework we embody to create and sustain a community igniting the joy of learning and inspiring leaders. If you would like to volunteer your time or resources to help this initiative, please reach out to Ashley Johnson at aejohnson@forsyth.k12.ga.us for more information. Stay Tuned!
