October 24th, 2025 - Volume 8
Dear Viking Families,
I am excited to share the pieces of playground equipment your children voted on during school over the last two weeks. Please see the pictures below! This is possible due to the generous donations from you for Boosterthon. We have ordered the pieces from Play South, a company that has provided playground equipment to many other schools in FCS, and our hope is we have this installed in January 2026. Again, thank you!
Next week is West Fest at West Forsyth High School. I hope you and your family will attend as it is a great community event. This year we are blending West Fest with Trunk or Treat so there will be plenty to do for everyone. Be sure to look for our VCE booths - some of our incredible teachers go all out for the booths and I'm excited to see what they do! On Thursday is our October LSC meeting featuring Dr. Josh Lowe, our Chief of Staff, who will share about the district strategic planning process. All are invited. Next week also continues early voting with November 4th being the actual election day. Please see information here for more inforamtion or the section in the newsletter below.
Our hallway and classrooms are full of the Fall spirit! From apples to pumpkins, to some friendly ghosts, we truly know how to welcome a new season. We will have our Book Character Dress Up day next Friday, on Halloween. I can’t wait to see all the books come to life in our hallways. Please remind your child not to wear a face mask or bring any prop that could look like or be used as a weapon.
This is the last week to vote for a staff member for October’s Habit 2 - Begin with the End in Mind. We recognize this staff member at our Principal Pal celebration and your voice matters! Here is the nomination form: October Spirit of the Viking Nomination.
Please remind your children that it is important for them to keep their hands to themselves when at school. We have recently seen an increase in the number of students sent to the office due to playfulness turning serious. Students must learn that they cannot touch others in anger. Students will receive consequences for this behavior. Thank you for helping us reinforce this necessary understanding for students.
Feel free to reach out to any of our admin staff if you have any questions about anything we do here at VCE. I love to hear your thoughts and perceptions. As I have shared before, one of my core values is curiosity. To live into that value, I want to be sure you are heard and able to share ideas.
With gratitude,
Elizabeth Ihle

October - Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind
Forsyth County voters have a long history of supporting ESPLOST (Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax), which has funded capital projects that support all schools. Every promised project from past ESPLOST referendums has been completed, ensuring students learn in safe, modern, and innovative environments. View the video above from Superintendent Mitch Young and BOE Chairman Mike Valdes for an important message about the upcoming vote for ESPLOST VII.
The proposed ESPLOST VII is not a new tax—it is a continuation of the one-penny sales tax that helps reduce the burden on property taxes by also being paid by non-residents who shop, dine, or do business in Forsyth County. If approved, ESPLOST VII will fund important safety upgrades, new schools and expansions, technology, and transportation improvements that directly benefit students and staff while keeping pace with our community’s growth.
Forsyth County voters will have the opportunity to decide on the renewal of ESPLOST during the election on Tuesday, November 4, 2025.
Please note that employees may not work to promote or oppose ESPLOST or bond referendums during school hours or using school resources. For more information, refer to the FCS Employee Handbook or contact your supervisor.
