March 6th, 2026 - Volume 15
Dear Viking Families,
With the arrival of March and the hint of Spring, here at VCE we have been busy! Last week our Cognia Internal Review was a wild success, thanks to your children and our incredible teachers. Their excitement and anticipation for the day and visitors was a living example of synergy. They worked with each other to showcase our school in a way that demonstrates joy and leadership. The internal review process offers school communities an objective perspective on how well practices align with strategic goals and world-class standards. By incorporating meaningful and relevant feedback, it highlights strengths, identifies growth areas, and fosters a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and a shared commitment to teaching and learning which ultimately enhances student outcomes and professional growth.
For the month of March, we are focused on Habit 7, "Sharpen the Saw." This habit Habit 7 is the habit of taking care of your body by eating right, exercising, and getting the right amount of sleep. It’s the habit of spending time with family and friends; to learn in lots of ways and lots of places, not just at school. The habit is about taking the time to find meaningful ways to help others. In a nutshell, habit 7 is about taking care of yourself.
At the end of this month, we will have our first “Sharpen the Saw” day that is replacing Viking Fridays. We have a new way of creating and building this schedule that is driven by student choice. This day follows our school-wide Pep Rally when we walk our students to Vickery Creek Middle School to celebrate our community partnerships and give our students an opportunity to see and hear our collective voice and learn about our Habit Garden. Our Habit Garden spearheaded by our Parent Lighthouse Team will be completed at that time. The evening wraps up the day with our PTO Spring event - Spring Fest, featuring a Movie on the Lawn.
As the weather warms us up, I know our walkers and golf carts will return! As a reminder, please be sure you are careful in the car line both in the morning and afternoon, and are not on your phones. We do our best to structure this in a way that provides safety for students and staff coming to school and going home.
I look forward to seeing you soon! Enjoy the weekend.
Elizabeth Ihle

Currently, our PLT is leading the efforts to create a VCE Habit Garden in the front of our school. You may notice some new rocks and a large pallet of stones - all part of the bigger plan to beautify our space with the 8 Habits and the framework we embody to create and sustain a community igniting the joy of learning and inspiring leaders. Here is the amazon wish list they have created to try to get donations for some of the remaining projects. Thank you for considering!
