Kindergarten Quarter 2

Below are listed the I Can statements for each unit. These help guide teachers in our planning as we prepare lessons knowing what students need to be doing by the end of the unit. This gives you an idea of things that you can work on at home or talk about.

Quarter 2

Unit 4

What students are expected to do:

  • I can tell different ways to measure an object.

  • I can tell which object is shorter or taller/longer.

  • I can tell which object is lighter or heavier.

  • I can name basic shapes in my environment.

  • I can describe positions of two shapes using words such as above, below, in front of, behind, and next to.

  • I can correctly name shapes in all positions and sizes.

Unit 5:

What students are expected to do:

  • I can count to 20 by ones.

  • I can write numbers from 0-20.

  • I can write the number for a collection of objects up to 20.

  • I can count objects with one-to-one correspondence from 0-20.

  • I can tell the number of objects to 20 by counting.

  • I know the arrangement of objects does not change the number of objects.

  • I know that the order I count will not change the total number of objects.

  • I can compare sets to 20.

  • I can order sets and numbers to 10.

  • I know that each number is one more than the number before.

  • I can show numbers 11-19 as tens and ones as objects or drawings.

  • I know that numbers 11-19 are one ten and more ones.

Unit 6:

What students are expected to do:

  • I can use actions and objects such as sounds, fingers, and cubes to model addition and subtraction for numbers up to 5.

  • I can use objects, drawings, and/or equations to show addition and subtraction for numbers up to 5.

  • I can find more than one number pair for numbers up to 5 using objects or drawings.
