Workshops

Hello educators! Student Senators have developed two workshops, designed for students in grades 8-12. Below are all the materials that you will need to run these workshops. Both workshops have been trial-run and have been reviewed by Elizabeth Shen, Ph.D, Supervisor, Specialized Learning Supports (Diversity Education).

Responding to Racism Workshop

This workshop focuses on topics such as allyship, performative allyship, responding to racism, and encourages students to brainstorm ideas on how to address racism in their schools and community.

This workshop is estimated to be completed in approximately two hours if all components and activities are included. However, this can vary depending on the educator’s choices.

Racism in Schools Survey - This workshop requires that teachers share the ‘Racism in Schools’ survey with their classes prior to completing the workshop. In order to see the results of this survey, teachers must also complete the survey; once they have finished, there will be an option to ‘see previous responses’. By clicking that option, you can share the information anonymously with your students at the appropriate time during the presentation.

Addressing Racial Prejudice Workshop

This workshop focuses on topics such as racial bias; misrepresentation of the Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour community in books and films and encourages students to brainstorm ideas on how to address racism in their schools and community.

This workshop is estimated to be completed in approximately one hour and a half if all components are included and all activities are completed. However, this varies depending on the educator’s choices.
