The Elk Mound Football team may have had a rough start to the season, but if you look at the spot they are sitting now, you might have thought the beginning games were played by a different team. The Mounders are 5-0 in conference games and 6-2 overall. This week they face the undefeated Spring Valley Cardinals. This means that both of these teams will be playing for the Dunn- St. Croix Conference Championship.
The game will be held at Elk Mound and will also be senior night. The team has 12 seniors who will be playing. The Mounders faced two very good opponents in the first two games. They played Chetek-Weyerhaeuser and St. Croix Central. The St. Croix Central team was the defending state champion for division 4 (Elk Mound is division 5). Elk Mound went on to face conference rivals and one more non-conference. The team learned a lot from the first two weeks and would put themselves in the right place. They recently faced, a seemingly equal team, Durand. The Mounders played through rain and a severely muddy field but defeated the Panthers anyway. The team is armed with a stellar offensive backfield and burly O-line. The defense is also very good at adapting to other teams’ offenses. Special teams also creates ways to give the team the best position. Overall, the team has the right mentality and physical effort to beat its adversaries.
The Elk Mound football team will surely have its time to prove if it is the best in the Dunn-St.Croix. After this week’s matchup, we will see the football team in the playoffs, possibly facing teams from previous years. We would like to wish the team best of luck and advise you to leave nothing to chance.
