What is the Hmong organization?
Hmong Student Organization, HSO, is a club for anyone interested in having to promote awareness. Our organization is to provide an understanding of one’s resources and his/her issues to further educate themselves and the surrounding community.
Within HSO, we try and learn about things that we don’t already know. In addition, it would be more of like Hmong culture, Hmong traditional, Hmong history, etc. HSO is something that was made to help us remind some of us that some of us have a culture that is soon disappearing.
When and where do you meet?
We usually meet most Tuesdays in Mr. Roshell’s room (Room 117) from 3:30-4:30pm.
What happens during a meeting?
We try to do a get-to-know you game for everyone to get comfortable with one another. In addition, we usually talk about interesting things in Hmong such as the history, clothing, tradition, etc. We talk about events we could go to like conferences that I know of or anyone knows of. Like three weeks ago, was the Eau Claire Hmong New Year that most of us went to. It was a great experience for anyone trying out and seeing new things!
Would you recommend it to students thinking about joining?
If you’re interested in learning more about Hmong, yes! This is a great opportunity for everyone wanting to know more than just the main thing they know about, which is egg rolls. We plan on trying to expand and do new things each month/year to make it more fun!
List your favorite things about the club.
During our meetings we would search things and watch them like we watched some videos with great meaning. It’s to help us relate to Hmong and help others that are in there understand what some of it is like.
