E-sports, one of the newest clubs of the 2017-2018 year, is still a mystery to some. Others may just misunderstand the club in general. Mr. Lundgren, the teacher in charge, has said “The idea of starting an Esports team began with two observations. First and most obvious was the observation that students like video games. Esports seemed like an easy sell to the student body. The other observation that I had was that if you live in town and don’t have a driver’s license, you might get pretty bored in the afternoon. I thought the HUB could be a great location for students to come hang out. We offer console gaming as table space for card or board games as well!”
Now we have to remember to a lot of us, this is a sport, not just games. Elliot Kasakitas, a member and the “right hand man” of this club has said that being we’re a gaming club, we’re looked down upon because of that, and it’s viewed as unhealthy by teachers and certain people. What they don’t know is that E-Sports offer partial or full scholarships, just by playing video games! Now I know what you’re thinking, it’s on the lines of “A Partial or Full Scholarship?! There’s no way that’s true!” Well I can tell you 100% that it’s real and true, but in order to play competitively you need at least a C average. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t play other things in the HUB. For example we have a Nintendo 64, SNES classic, NES classic, and a Playstation 2. Our current game selection so far is League of Legends and Paladins, BUT we’ll be adding Overwatch as soon as this week! If there’s any additional information you want, see Mr. Lundgren, or Elliot Kasakitas and they’ll be more than willing to answer those said questions.
