As we begin the school year, sports fall sports are underway and the Elk Mound Mounders are looking to have a successful season. Football, Volleyball and Cross Country teams have been working all summer to do their best for the season.
The football team has already started their regular season and are looking to get some conference wins. They started the season with the theme “Finish”. The football team has 8 seniors leading the team. They played Chetek- Weyerhaeuser at home and lost 6-21. They then went to play Eleva- Strum and won 38-0. Then again at home lost to Glenwood City 18-30 for the first conference game of the season. The Mounders played non-conference Saint Croix Falls and won 39-13. Additionally, the team defeated Colfax on September 16 and Mondovi on September 23.
The Volleyball team has also been improving and getting ready for conference play. They have shown great teamwork and enthusiasm at the quads and practices. The team has 8 seniors and have 7 returning varsity players. The team pushes to be consistent in play and is striving to win conference this year. The volleyball Mounders will have three home games. The Mounders play Durand Thursday, September 27 at home.
The Cross Country team has been running hard all summer and have already run three meets. The team has sported a shirt saying “No Excuses”, which is a play on the abbreviation “XC” for cross-country. The Cross Country team has 4 seniors: Elizabeth Fasbender, Kaitlyn Baier, Meredith Hainstock, and Matt McLaughlin. The teams have great potential in conference and have a good corps of runners. Many runners have been making personal bests, and women’s Varsity and JV attained 1st place at the recent EC Wells meet.
