Mrs Reynolds' maths group have stated the half term off by learning all about decimal numbers - numbers that are worth less than 1. Today we looked at what decimals mean. A tenth is created when 1 whole is divided into 10 equal parts and a hundredth is when a tenth is divided by 10 or 1 whole is divided by 100. We used playdoh to help us to visualise the 'size' of the numbers and we linked this to the headings in our place value chart. 1/10 means 1 tenth = 0.1 and 1/100 means 1 hundredth = 0.01. Throughout this term, we will be learning how decimal numbers, fractions and percentages are linked.
Our new topic in Theme is North America. Throughout this term, we will be learning about the geography of this continent and the natural resources it contains. Today we used atlases, globes, ipads and chromebooks to name the 23 countries that can be found in North America.
