Welcome back! We hope you have had a wonderful Easter break. We have started this half term off by planting vegetables in our trug and pot to start our topic about Food and Farming. We have tomatoes, Basil, Peas, Marigolds and Potatoes with Mint. Throughout this half term, we will be thinking about where our food comes from and trying to grow our own sunflowers. We wonder which ones will grow the tallest....Look at for regular updates!

4B Planting sunflowers, pots and the Trug
We have had a fabulous time this week, learning all about the Royal Family and King Charles III ahead of his coronation on Saturday 6th May 2023. We have thought about the details of the Coronation in Westminster Abbey and the history associated with it. We have compared the lives of Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth II and then created a fact file all about our new king. Today we enjoyed dressing in red, white and blue and having a picnic disco on the school field at lunchtime. Congratulations King Charles III!
Mrs Reynolds' Maths Group have been learning all about time and clocks. Today we had to convert between hours and minutes, days, months, weeks and years and find the answers around the room. Each answer had a letter that spelt the pass phrase. ' FROGS LOVE LEAP YEARS!'
4B making their salt dough, inspired by bread!
In Year 4, we believe that is we know what a text sounds like, then we will be able to write own own version. We are currently learning all about the language of persuasion. Linked to our Farming topic, we have used the story of the Little Red Hen to write a letter to the other farm animals to help her to harvest the wheat. We have learned the text using actions and then we have story mapped the words so that we can read it out loud by heart. Now that we understand how a formal, persuasive letter should sound, we are going to write our own version, asking the animals to help bake the bread from the wheat that Little Red Hen harvested!
We had a wonderful time yesterday during our Art Day. Our Theme was New Zealand Art. Inspired by the artist, Raewyn Harris, we creates oil pastel artwork that is based around the Koru and nature. The Koru is a very special fern that unfurls as it grows and represents new life, strength and happiness. We sketched our design in pencil, practiced blending oil pastel colours and then combined our skills to make our creations -Scroll through the carousel to see how well we did!
As part of our Food and Farming Topic, we have been learning about how farmers protect their crops. Scarecrows have long been used to deter birds from eating the seeds. Essex Agricultural Society will be running a competition during our Writtle College Trip for the best Coronation Themed Scarecrow. We designed our own, voted on the one we wanted to make and then made it. We present Scarecrow Kate!
