Teach students to play Rock, Paper, Scissors.
Have students practise a few times with a partner, then explain that you will play some music while students move around the room.
When the music stops, students to find the nearest partner and play Rock, Paper, Scissors. The loser is to sit down - students to practise using good manners while playing.
When the music starts, everyone rejoins the game and continues playing.
After playing, ask the following questions:
• What is the ‘Rock, paper, scissors’ game used for?
• What does it feel like when you lose in a game?
• What does it feel like when people won’t let you join a game?
Brainstorm different emotions as a class. Explain that we can use different strategies to cheer up or calm down if we are feeling upset.
Play different audio and have students move around the room based on how the music makes them feel. Discuss why certain songs made them feel different emotions.
Play the Mood Walk Go Noodle.
As a class, sing Little Miss Muffet. Then, select 2 students to act out the roles of Little Miss Muffet and the spider. Have a class discussion about how each character was feeling and why.
Read 'Me and My Fear'. Discuss the different things the girl fears in the story.
Students to write a fear in their writing book and then write 3 coping strategies they could use.
Read a story to the class. Explain what reconciliation means.
Students to create a hand that represents reconciliation to be part of a whole school display.
