Dear Families,
We have put together some information to support your child's ongoing learning and development from a Kindergarten perspective. Remember, you are your child's first teacher, so enjoy the time you have and share your interests, passions and time together.
This is a Social story to simply explain details around the Corona Virus for young children. This is intentionally simple as this allows children to understand without creating anxiety, the clearer we can be with our children, the more settled and safe they will feel.
Here is some good information if your child is feeling anxious:
Structure for the day is so important, share with your child what will happen for the day and then draw some simple pictures so they can refer to this.
It's good to group activities that YOU choose. ie: 'First lego, then drawing then playdoh'. Set these up with some intention and purpose- lego- 'lets make a tower, drawing- 'we are going to draw a fast car', playdoh- 'I'd like you to make some pizza'. you can use a digital sand timer to extend your child's play, this should be between 5-10 minutes.
some other activities are:
-painting, drawing, playdoh, lego, construction, cubby houses, cooking, reading, nature hunts outside, obstacle courses in the back yard, weed the garden etc. Remember to google ideas, here is one that has a long list to start with. https://www.northshoremums.com.au/fun-home-activities-with-kids
You can use technology to keep in touch also, face time and skype are not only great tools, but they also support your child to engage reciprocal listening skills and to extend communication strategies. Remember that reading to your child each day is the greatest predictor of academic success, you may like to use some time to read each day.
Most importantly, stay calm, enjoy the time you have with your children and have fun.... We're all just big kids at heart- so play.
