Geometry covers 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional shapes and some of their properties (such as sides, edges and faces). At home, you can ask students to find, recognise and classify shapes, such as circles, squares, triangles, cubes, spheres and cylinders.
In the real world, we often use capacity when cooking. Try having students compare two glasses (one short and stout, and one thin and tall), and have them estimate which will hold more. Fill one glass with water and tip into the other glass to find out which holds more.
Comparing Measurement
What objects can you find around your house to compare? Can you find something longer than a pencil? Heavier than a spoon?
Shape
Go on a Shape Hunt around your home. What different 2D or 3D shapes can you find?
