Thursday Sport

THURSDAY SPORT

Sport is held each Thursday afternoon and is compulsory for all students in Years 7 - 10.  In Term 1, all Year 7 students are divided into three groups of classes - one group travels to the Oasis pool for three consecutive weeks, while the other groups do selected sports at either the school oval or gym. The groups rotate so that they have an equal time at each venue during the term.

Students in Years 8 - 10 [and Year 7 in Terms 2 - 4] choose from a wide range of both competitive and non-competitive sports. Some sports are free, but others cost up to $15 per week for the term. You will be given an information sheet about sport choices at the end of Term 1 and will have to bring in the permission note from home. Once you have chosen your sport, you cannot change unless there are special circumstances and you get the approval of the sports organisers.

Will I always get my first choice for sport?

No, not always, although most students do. You need to get your form in quickly to have any chance at all of getting your first choice.

Students will have a designated area to meet at the conclusion of lunch on Thursday to have the roll marked before the sport group leaves to walk or catch a bus to sport as a group. If students would like to leave from sport to go home, and not return to school, they must complete a coloured permission form each term. This is signed by a parent and a Deputy Principal. Students must complete this form within the first three weeks of each term.

If you truant from or misbehave at sport, you will be put on sport detention at school which will involve school service and clean-up duties. Your parents will also be informed.

What do I wear to sport?

The school sports uniform which must be worn on Thursdays is the navy and blue polo shirt, navy shorts and sports shoes. In the winter, navy track pants may be worn, as well as a navy school jumper or jacket.

If you are unable to attend sport because of illness or injury, you have to bring a note from your parent/caregiver before roll call on Thursday mornings to the front office. You will then go to the school library during sport [1:25 – 3:25 pm] and do private study. Students are not permitted to simply go home at lunchtime and not go to sport.

What time does sport finish?

Sport at school finishes at 3:00 pm. Students who have not completed their coloured form will return to school with their teachers.
