Homework and Study

Homework and Study

Some homework and study [practice exercises or preparatory work] will be over one or two nights only, but much of it will be more long-term and will often be in the form of assessment tasks. The best thing you can do to help your children is to take an active interest in what homework they have and when it is due. You can then ensure that enough time is set aside for the homework to be done and encourage and support them to organise their time effectively and complete it to the best of their ability by the due date. Remember that ‘second best is not good enough’.

Remember also, what we have said in the student section of this booklet: there is no such thing as ‘no homework’. Even if there is no written homework or specific preparation work, you should encourage your child to make sure that all workbooks are up-to-date, study for upcoming tests, do extra reading or just read for pleasure. Literacy is the key to success in all subjects and any help and encouragement you can give your child with reading and comprehension will certainly pay off.
