Homework and Study

HOMEWORK and STUDY

Like work in class, the purpose of homework and study is learning. It is important that you build on what you have learnt in the classroom and homework and study help you to do this. It also encourages you to develop good study habits and to accept responsibility for your own learning.

Homework and study come in many forms. It may involve finishing off work from the lessons you had during the day, completing more questions from your textbook, learning work before a class test or whole year exam, catching up on work you’ve missed when you were away sick or off playing sport for the school, etc. You will also get several longer assessment tasks during the year which you will need to do to satisfy the requirements of your courses. If you want to do well in these assessment tasks, you will need to start them early and plan ahead so that you are not rushing to finish a task the night before it is due to be handed in.

Will I get homework every night?

An important thing to remember is that there is no such thing as ‘no homework’. This means that even if you haven’t been given any written homework, there is always something to do eg going over the work you did in class during the day, making sure your workbooks are up-to-date, studying for tests [learning facts and formulas, practising questions, etc], doing extra reading or just reading widely for pleasure and building your general knowledge.
