Industrial Technology-TIMBER develops knowledge and understanding of wood working materials and processes. Related knowledge and skills are developed through a practical approach to the use of hand and power tools, wood working materials and techniques employed in the planning, development, construction and evaluation of quality timber projects. 

Practical work will be completed in each unit of the program and include projects such as:

• Footstool;

• Tool Carrier;

• Spice Rack;

• Mantle Clock;

• Table Mirror;

• Major Project

NESA Industrial Technology

The aim of the Industrial Technology (Timber) is to develop in students knowledge, understanding, skills and values related to a range of timber technologies through the safe interaction with materials, tools and processes in the planning, development and construction of quality practical projects. The course aims to develop in students an understanding of the interrelationships between technology, the individual, society and the environment, and to develop their ability to think creatively to devise solutions to practical problems. 

Throughout the course, students will develop:

1. Knowledge of and competence in applying Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) risk management procedures and practices;

2. Knowledge, skills and an appreciation of quality in the design and production of practical projects;

3. Knowledge and understanding of the relationship between the properties of materials and their applications;

4. Skills in communicating ideas, processes and technical information with a range of audiences;

5. An appreciation of the relationship between technology, leisure and lifestyle activities and further learning

6. The ability to critically evaluate manufactured products in order to become a discriminating consumer; and

7. Knowledge and understanding of the role of traditional, current, new and emerging technologies in industry and their impact on society and the environment. 

The Industrial Technology (Timber) course is divided into two compulsory core modules (50 hours each):

• General Wood 1; and

• General Wood 2;

that lead to a range of optional specialised modules to be studied for not less than 50 hours each, including:

• Cabinetwork; and

• Wood Machining;

The core modules include the design, production and evaluation of practical projects that develop basic understanding and skills. These are further enhanced through the specialised modules.
