This course is designed to be inclusive of all students. It provides an opportunity for all students to develop an appreciation of Aboriginal identities and experiences and gain knowledge about contemporary Aboriginal issues. Aboriginal students have the opportunity to be empowered through exploring and celebrating their cultural heritage. Non-Aboriginal students have the opportunity to be empowered through their understanding of the unique value of Aboriginal peoples to Australia’s national identity. This course includes the study of our local Aboriginal community as well as other Aboriginal communities around Australia, highlighting cultural diversity. Assessment includes opportunity for real life experiences with local Aboriginal community members, organisation and cultural events.
Coursework
Students will experience a number of activities including note taking, videos, guest speakers, field trips, research, oral presentations and cooperative learning
Assessment is varied including, oral presentations, project and fieldwork type reports, and some written tasks.

Aboriginal Studies is inclusive of the learning needs of all students. Including Mainstream, Gifted and Talented, Life Skills and those interested in learning and connecting further with Aboriginal people and their places.

Enrichment Excursions may include the Local/Regional areas: Can include Aboriginal communities, either an urban or remote community and undertaking a comparison with Queanbeyan / Ngunnuwal. Lake Mungo to meet with local Aboriginal Ranger groups and report on the co-management of the sacred site and the importance to the local community.
