The essential content for Mathematics 7-10 is structured using a process strand Working Mathematically and three content strands; Number & Algebra; Measurement & Geometry; Statistics & Probability.
Each strand contains various substrands (or topics) that lie within the various pathways of the Stage 5 syllabus.
The Stage 5 syllabus is streamed meaning that not all students will study all of the substrands listed within the syllabus document. All students will study core topics with additional option topics that lead to various pathways in Stage 6
More information about the mandatory mathematics classes in Years 9 and 10 and the streamed syllabus is available within the 'Mathematics - Core' page.
In addition to the mandatory level of Mathematics, we also offer a Stage 5 Mathematics Elective called Mathematics Extension. This course focuses on ensuring students develop a sophisticated understanding of the more advanced concepts/options in the Stage 5 course that lead on to a Mathematics Advanced pathway within the NSW Syllabus.
It is only offered to Year 10 students as it is designed to seamlessly follow on from the pattern of study undertaken by the Year 10 'A' class as they complete the Advanced pathway.
More information about this course is available within the 'Mathematics Extension' page.
