Elective Courses
ROSA Requirements
Year 9 and 10 Science is broken into 4 main areas of study covering a variety of different scientific fields. Students will rotate through each of the different scientific fields over the year.
The Chemistry topics begins with atomic models and structure. The differences between atoms are discussed in terms of the number of protons, neutrons and electrons. Students then look at the potential energy that can be released from within atoms, and study how scientists are using this energy created in stars to power our future.
Our Biology units will give students the opportunity to study how multicellular organisms function. They will explore causes of disease in these organisms and what is the difference between infectious and non-infectious diseases. Students will examine how diseases reproduce and spread, and how this compares to our own reproduction.
In the Earth and Environmental Science topics, students will explore the natural resources available to us on Earth, and look at the importance of the natural environment in maintain sustainable resources for the future. Students will examine the human impacts on their local and global environments and explore the challenges that they may be faced with in the future as Earth’s climate changes. Students will then compare these changes to the global earth.
The Physics topics allow students to compare light and sound waves and how they are utilised for most of our communication. Students learn about communication technology and explore the impact of such technology on society.
