Sat 18 May

QMU Communities Day

QMU is celebrating its local community with a family-friendly day. For info on the event itself, please click here. As part of the celebration they will be unveiling their outdoor learning area “The Howff” and are looking for youth acts to perform. Please note that there is no power in the Howff, so you would need to be able to play acoustically. There may be an opportunity to play indoors, but you would need to discuss this with the organisers. For more info please email Patrick Boxall at QMU.

Sat 25 May

Haddstock Newcomer Stage

One of two opportunities for youth bands to perform at Haddstock this year. Newly formed 4-5 piece bands are encouraged to apply for Battle of the Bands (see below) but returners as well as larger ensembles and smaller groups can apply for the Newcomer Stage or Acoustic Cafe by applying directly to Haddstock. Acts must have  at least one musician under the age of 18. 20 mins per act.

To apply email: info@haddstock.co.uk

2-11 Aug

Fringe by the Sea

This year ELJam has 20-30min slots available on the Lighthouse Stage (full backline) and the Acoustic Stage (no backline but small busking amps will be ok). Successful applications will be passed to the festival organisers who will allocate bands to one of these two stages depending on their line up, their music style and how these fit with the wider festival programme. Slots are available throughout the festival which takes place in The Lodge Grounds, North Berwick. Travel expenses covered and food vouchers offered.

 Apply by Fri 31 May.

Sat 17 Aug

SAVE THE DATE!

ELjam is delighted to have been invited back to open the Hops in the Garden food and music festival this year. The event takes place in the walled garden at the Archerfield estate and is always a fantastic day out. We are just finalising details so check back soon to apply. Slots are usually 20mins long and last year we were invited to put forward three bands. This is a fundraiser for Leuchie House so we're doubly delighted to be supporting them.

Fri 23 Aug

Port Seton 30th Celebration

Port Seton Community Centre is celebrating its 30th birthday this August and they would love some youth acts to come and showcase their talent. They are looking for four 20 min slots between 7 and 10pm. All music styles are welcome, but the gig probably doesn’t suit acts with a lot of kit and a big backline requirement. For more info and to apply email ELJam.

Sat 28 Sep

Dunbar Music Festival

Following last year's success, ELJam and DMF are once again partnering up to present the East Lothian Youth Showcase in the Parish Church Hall. The event will take place between 11am and 3pm and we can offer up to seven 25 minute slots. The showcase is open to bands with members who are all under 25. Applications are open now! Visit DMF website

North Berwick Communities Day

North Berwick Coastal Area Partnership is organising its first Community Day at North Berwick Community Centre. The date is still to be confirmed but they are still welcoming notes of interest to perform. This will be a day to celebrate all the fabulous community groups and activities available in the area and aims to have a programme of entertainment throughout the day as well as marketplace stalls. This will be an indoor gig so power is available, but it will be playing within the market place hall so very loud acts won’t be appropriate. It doesn’t have to be acoustic (small amp is fine) and all genres are welcome so this might well suit trad/jazz/classical performers as well as singer songwriters etc. Priority given to young people from North Berwick and Coastal ward but all acts welcome to apply. 20-30mins required, subsistence and travel expenses covered.  Contact Connected Communities Manager Doug Haig to apply & for more info.

Other Opportunities

ELJam Youth Voice

Have Your Say!

ELJam is looking to recruit a team of young volunteers to directly contribute to the planning and delivery of its activities. Volunteers would initially help to define the team's roles and principles and then would help decide which projects and activities ELJam will develop over the coming months. If you would like to have your say and represent the youth voice for the ELJam network, please get in touch.

Past Events

Fri 19 April

Edinburgh College Recital

It was a pleasure to watch students from Edinburgh College’s HND course perform at Lammermuir Care Home last Friday. ELJam was asked to help find some young classical musicians for a memorial recital and these students did themselves proud. Thank you to Katrina Bateman (lecturer) for coming out to Dunbar and providing such a wonderful concert. The residents, staff and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Sat 13 April

Saturday Music Sessions

Following the success of their re-launch in January, The Fraser Centre's Saturday Music Sessions returned on 13 April.

The first night was a great success; a sell out with amazing feedback from the 120 strong audience and performers alike.

The second night was equally as fantastic. Well done to the all five acts, what an incredible display of talent! We were treated to two solo singers and three bands: Hayley Hawkins, Cat Steele, Room 27, No Dirty Campers and The Watts. For more info on the next Saturday session or to perform visit The Fraser Centre.

Sat 16 March

Green Futures Festival

Lil, ELCAN & the East Lothian Climate Hub are seeking 2 or 3 musicians/small groups to play at their inaugural Green Futures Festival at Queen Margaret University on 16th March between 10am and 3pm. You would be playing in the public spaces at QMU alongside other festival activities, so would suit acoustic groups or acts with minimal set up. ELJam may be able to support with a small PA but ideally you will have your own kit. The audience for the day is a mixture of community groups, local politicians and the public - there's a programme of talks, workshops and family friendly activities you are welcome to join in with. There is food available onsite and Lil can offer you a £5/head food voucher plus travel expenses. They are looking for 2-3 acts. Please complete this form to apply:
