An Introduction to the Education Outreach Service
The remit of the Equity and Inclusion Education Outreach Service is to provide educational support to identified children and young people.
The support provided will be closely aligned with the stretch aim measures in East Lothian Council’s Raising Attainment Strategy.
Typically, children and young people will be referred to the service when support more bespoke than what the school can offer is required. This may include children and young people who are struggling to attend schools for reasons of mental or physical illness or who have experienced an interruption to their learning and need help to bridge this gap.
There must be clear evidence in the planning documentation for the child or young person that a range of supports and strategies, at school level, have been implemented and evaluated prior to referral to the service. There must also be clear evidence that the school has referred to the range of support services available to them such as Educational Psychology, Single Point of Access and Families Together East Lothian.
The service is not standalone and does not subsume the planning and delivery of education for children and young people. The service works in close partnership with the child or young person’s school to deliver the curriculum set by the school. It remains the responsibility of the school to plan, set and assess work completed by children and
young people accessing the service.
In line with the principles of Belonging to East Lothian, it is assumed that the service will work with children and young people on a short to medium term basis.
