Game Jam 2026
This year, the Game Jam will run again for the 4th year, with over 85% of primary schools taking part last year. The Game Jam exposes primary learners to the world of Game Design. Through 15 recorded lessons, learners will explore some of the key features associated with building a game, including sprites, backgrounds, storylines, scoring systems and levels. Last year's cohort expressed their wish for the theme to be more flexible; therefore, this year's theme will be free choice, empowering the creation of any style of game they wish. This may also provide teachers with the opportunity to build this project into an already existing topic planned for the new year.
Suitable for P4-P7, the Game Jam enables learners to put their coding skills to the test through simple block coding on Scratch. Teachers can set up an account and authorise learner accounts through the simple steps outlined here.
The Game Jam will begin in January 2026 and run right through till May 2026. Planning for the games can begin at any time though through using the design brief document to start developing ideas.
