Serve Day

Huge thanks to the volunteers who participated in our first Day of Service! The serve team from Church of the King Baton Rouge Campus worked along side members of our baseball, football, cheer, dance, basketball and STEM teams to deliver textbooks and supplies, set up classrooms, hang bulletin boards, paint walls, pressure wash entrances, and move furniture.

Make-up Orientation

Thank you to everyone who came out and completed orientation this past week.  This ensures that we are ready to begin teaching and learning on the first day of school.

For those who were unable to attend orientation in July, make-up orientation is scheduled for Monday, August 7 from 1:00 - 2:30.  All orientation activities will be available to complete.

IF A PARENT DID NOT ATTEND ORIENTATION WITH THEIR STUDENT - all orientation documents signed by both student and parent need to be turned in to the main office prior to the start of school.

A special thanks to our employees, coaches, and volunteers who ensured a smooth and organized orientation experience.

Student Issued Chromebooks

All Chromebooks are checked out to each student.  Students are responsible for the specific Chromebook issued to them.  Replacement and repair fees are the responsibility of the student to whom the Chromebook is checked out.

All Liberty Chromebooks are equipped with TMobile 5G data service.  In order to ensure adequate operating speed, the data service should be turned off while on campus so the Chromebooks will connect to the school wifi.

STUDENTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO REMOVE THE CLEAR CHROMEBOOK COVER.  STICKERS AND WRITING OF ANY KIND ON THE CHROMEBOOK OR CLEAR COVER ARE PROHIBITED.

Grade-Level Google Classroom

All students have received invitations to their Grade-Level Google Classrooms.  Students should sign-in to their student accounts and accept the invitations.

All students who attended an EBR school last year have the same login and password.  Students new to the district can get their username and password from a school librarian.

Liberty Magnet School App

For the coming school year, all students, parents, and staff will need to have the Liberty Magnet App.  The app is a FREE download for Apple and Android users.  Access to important information, links to resources, school-wide notifications, and two-way student-teacher communication.

Back to School Info

Back to School Information

Visit the Back to School Page on the Liberty Magnet Website for information about the return to school.   Students return to school on Wednesday, August 9th.

Instruction will begin on the first day of school and it is imperative that students are in attendance.  We will be following an A/B Block schedule this school year.

Please be reminded that Liberty matches the district-standard for high school start and end times.  This means that class begins at 7:10 each day.

Back to School Q & A

My student wants a scheudule change, how do I take care of that?

All student schedules were made using the spring course requests submitted to counselors.  Over the course of the Spring semester, students and parents had the opportunity to review those requests and request any changes.  The school's master schedule was created based on the course requests submitted.

With increased enrollment numbers due to Liberty's growing demand, almost all classes offered on campus are at full capacity.  This means requests to change a class period or a scheduled course most likely will not be able to be accommodated.

Any requests for schedule changes must be made during the July Orientations.  A request to change a schedule is not an approval or guarantee of a schedule change.

Schedule change requests will only be considered for the following reasons:

Where do I access a Supply List?

Liberty does not have a start of school supply list.  It is important that students pick-up their Chromebooks at orientation and bring them (fully charged) to school every day, starting on the first day of school (August 9).  Students should also bring something to write with and something to write on for the first few days.  Each teacher will provide an individual list of additional supplies needed, based on the student's schedule.  This year, we will be incorporating more paper/pencil instruction to complement the use of technology.

How do I know what bus my student rides?

Our last communication from the Transportation Department indicated that all students would be routed on busses.  Our understanding is that all Liberty students should receive a bus route card.

Bus cards will be mailed from the EBR Transportation Department prior to the start of school.  Until the start of school, all transportation questions should be directed to the EBR Transportation Department (225-226-3784).  If you do not receive a bus card by the end of the week, please contact the Transportation Hotline.

The Liberty team has not yet received a copy of bus assignments and unfortunately will not be able to verify transportation assignments during orientation.

Can my student carpool?

Many Liberty students carpool.  Carpool should only be used as an option for students who can be dropped off and picked up within the supervision windows (6:40 - 2:45).

Carpool students may be dropped off between 6:40 - 7:05.  Students must be in class before 7:10.  Carpool students are not allowed to enter buildings until 6:50, when busses unload.  Students arriving to class after 7:10 are recorded as tardy.

All late students must be checked in by an adult in the A Building office.  Late students may not be dropped off (there are a number of safety/security concerns.)  Students who are dropped off late at any point during the day without being checked in by an adult will be sent to the Time Out Room until an adult arrives to complete the check-in process.

Carpool students must be picked up between 2:25 - 2:45 each day. Students are not allowed to remain on campus unsupervised after school.  All pick-up must take place in designated carpool lines (not in the bus loading entrance and not on Lee Drive).  In alignment with the new district-wide checkout policy, there are no student checkouts after 1:30.  This is a new time.  Parents may not check students out early to avoid carpool.  Carpool drivers may begin to line up after 2:00.

Carpool directions with a map will be posted prior to the start of school.  It is important that everyone understand the carpool process and move efficiently to avoid traffic issues on Lee Drive.

Can my student drive?

A limited number of student drivers are allowed on campus.  All student drivers must purchase a numbered Parking Pass from the main office prior to driving to school ($35).  Parking spaces are assigned based on the parking pass number.  Once parking passes are sold out, no new student drivers will be allowed.  Students driving on campus without a 2023-2024 LMHS Parking Pass risk vehicles being towed at owner's expense.

Parking passes go on sale at orientation.  Seniors will have the first opportunity to purchase a parking pass, followed by juniors.  Students must provide (1) driver's license, (2) car registration, (3) proof of current insurance, and (4) $35 to purchase a Parking Pass.  Students will not be allowed to purchase a parking pass until their 2023-2024 school fee has been paid.

All drivers must arrive by 7:00 everyday and be in class on time by 7:10.  Repeated late arrivals to school will result in suspension of driving privileges for the remainder of the semester or the remainder of the school year.

This year, all drivers must attend a lunch seminar prior to receiving their physical parking pass.  At this seminar, we will be reviewing driving rules and expectations.  Starting August 17, all student drivers must have a parking pass displayed in their rear-view mirror and must be parked in their assigned parking spot.

Do students wear uniforms?

Students do not wear uniforms at Liberty Magnet.  There is a dress code policy for all students.  Students must be in compliance with dress code at all times of the day.  As we begin, please be sure to reinforce and monitor student dress to reduce the possibility of lost instruction.  The dress code is posted with the important documents in the next section of this memo.

How do students pay for breakfast and lunch?

Breakfast and lunch are provided free of charge to all Liberty students.

Breakfast is provided in a grab-and-go format.  Students may eat breakfast in the outdoor commons, building commons, or tables in the open learning areas on each floor of the academic buildings.  Students do not eat breakfast in the cafeteria.

Lunch is provided in multiple locations.  Students may only pick-up one lunch each day.

Students who bring their lunch to school may eat in any of the designated eating areas listed above.  There are three microwaves available to students in the cafeteria.  Students are responsible for covering their meal when heating AND wiping down the inside of the microwave after use.  If microwaves are not kept clean, they will be removed.

Does my student need to purchase PE Uniforms at orientation?

Students who are enrolled in PE class must purchase an LMHS PE Uniform.  Uniforms must be kept washed (at home) by the student and brought to school each day that the student takes PE.  Unless enrolled in JROTC, all 9th and 10th grade students are enrolled in Physical Education.  Upperclassmen taking PE must also have an LMHS PE Uniform.  Students registered in Athletic PE classes for team sports will not purchsae a PE Uniform, but will wear their sport-assigned practice gear.

We are on vacation this week.  What are our options?

All families should attend orientation at the designated times.  In the event that a family is out of town, please make sure to take care of the following before the start of school.  There is limited availability to manage some of these activities outside of the orientation dates:

How does the class schedule operate?

Liberty follows an A/B Block schedule.  Students will attend 1st - 4th Periods on "A" days and 5th - 8th Periods on "B" days.  Students report directly to 1st Period on A days (1st day of school) and directly to 5th Period on B days (2nd day of school).  The school app reminds students of the A/B day designation each day.

A days and B days alternate, without skipping order.  Some weeks will have 3 - A days and only 2 - B days, while the next week will have 2 - A days and 3 - B days.  Upon returning from a break/holiday, the schedule will pick up in rotation after the last class day.
