The lineup has been submitted and our postseason team is locked in. Here is our lineup for the State Qualifying Meet on May 9th at Norwalk.
State Qualifying is upon us this week. Before we look at our district, we can take a look at what it takes to not only get to state but also what it would take to score points at state. Here is an overview of the historical data to give us an idea of what it takes.
The toughest conference in the state clashed in Ankeny, and Dowling Catholic came away with a 4th place finish. This was the last meet for many athletes, but for some it was the beginning of the postseason push.
The 114th Drake Relays were a memorable one, to say the least. Several hours spent in rain delays, the 4x400 taking the brunt of those both Friday and Saturday. But even mother nature couldn't prevent the athletes from setting several all-time performances.Â
The Maroons come away victorious at their home meet with several out standing performances. Read to see who finished at the top in their events, who set a new PR or two, and who etched their name on our all-time lists.
It's official - we have 12 events that will be participating in the 2024 Drake Relays, which will take place April 25-27. We have a team of 11 athletes competing with another 6 slated as alternates over the weekend. Read to see who is competing when at the Blue Oval.
A chillier, windier, and wetter day in Ankeny saw the Maroons have a lot of good results as we finish the Drake Relays qualifying window for the season.Â
80+ degrees the second week of April?!? The Maroons competed in the Jim Duncan Invitational against the toughest competition in central Iowa and had some big performances, 8 PRs, 4 SB for individuals, and 3 SB for relays.
Spring is here with better weather leading to many improved performances, a debut of the new uniforms, and a new school record.
A blustery day in West Des Moines included some standout performance, some fight through minor injuries and head aches, some results that show promise, and a coaches championship to cap it off.
A chilly and windy day in Ankeny didn't stop the Maroons from getting a meet in, mixing and matching relays and putting up some good marks for early in the season.Â
The Maroons finally get a chance to compete outside and have lots of success at DCG on Holy Saturday. Lots of personal records, seasons best's, and all-time performances to go around.
Mother nature may have cancelled our first outdoor meet, but we won't let that bring us down. Here is a collection of how the team has done at our 4 indoor meets this season!
Back from break, the Maroons went to Wartburg and came away team champions, featuring a number of high finishes, personal records, and season's bests.
The team starts Spring Break with a strong showing in Ames at the 2024 IATC Indoor Championships. Lots of good performances all around - 6 all-time performances including a new Sophomore record, 9 personal records, and points in 8 different events.
The Maroons sent groups to both UNI and Mason City for their first competitions of the season. There were a lot of good performances all around!
Here is a brief overview of the upcoming season - looking at our returning state qualifiers, our schedule, the top returners in each individual event, and the top incoming freshman in each individual event based on their 8th grade results.

November 27, 2023 (updated February 19, 2024)
This season, the coaching staff came together to formalize what the requirements are to earn a Girls Track and Field letter. We always had benchmarks in the past but most were event specific. Coach Parriott wanted to make one system so that everyone knows the goals to achieve and to help incentivize all track and field athletes to earn a letter.Â
In this system, athletes will earn a letter by earning 40 points. Points can be earned by the following:
Returning Track and Field athleteÂ
2nd year is 5 points, 3rd year is 10 points, and 4th year is 15 points
Off-season workouts are 1 points each (15 total off-season workouts)
Winter sport participation is 15 points
You are active in a sport and won't be attending off-season workouts
Every time you PR is 1 point
Every time you score points in a Varsity event is 1 point
Each event that makes the record board (All-Time or grade specific) is 5 points
Competing at the State Qualifying Meet is 10 points
Alternates who go but don't compete earn 5 points
Competing at the State Meet is 15 points
Lettering can also be awarded by coaches discretion.
