The Maroons had a busy three days at Drake Stadium after qualifying for 12 of the 17 events at the Drake Relays. There were lots of strong showings throughout the schedule that left us in a strong position with just conference, districts, and state left to go.
THURSDAY
Audrey Ott was the lone Maroon competing on Thursday starting our Relays weekend in the discus. She finished 11th overall with a throw of 123'8, the second time she has thrown over 120' in her career and finished above her seeding of 13th. Audrey also finished 4th overall amongst 4A competitors.
FRIDAY
Friday morning started with 3 Maroons competing in the 100 hurdle prelims. Olivia Kramer (3rd - 15.00) and Alex Gaskell (8th - 15.27 PR) both qualified for finals and Ruby Leman (15.46) finished 12th overall. Alex improves her mark as 7th in school history and 3rd all-time for sophomores. Looking at the competition from just class 4A, Olivia was 2nd, Alex was 5th, and Ruby was 7th.
Next was the 100 meter dash prelims with Olivia Kramer and Emily Heitzman. Olivia finished 4th in the prelims with a SB of 12.30 to qualify for finals, and Emily finished 17th overall with a PR of 12.66. Emily moves up to 10th in school history and 4th all-time for sophomores, and Olivia is now 2nd all-time for seniors. Amongst the 4A competitors, Olivia was 1st overall and Emily was 7th.
In between the 100 hurdles prelims and finals, Alex Gaskell also competed in the High Jump. She finished 19th overall clearing 5'2. This was good for 5th among 4A competitors.
The Sprint Medley had a big time showing while HJ was going on. The quartet of Shea Johnson, Emily Heitzman, Ashley Hall, and Lauren McCoy BREAK THE SCHOOL RECORD with a time of 1:47.53. They finished 3rd overall and 2nd amongst the 4A teams.
The 100 meter hurdle finals saw Olivia Kramer (15.09) finish 3rd and Alex Gaskell (15.30) finish 5th overall. These were good for 2nd and 3rd amongst the 4A finalists.
In the 4x200, the crew of Annie Smith, Emily Heitzman, Ashley Hall, and Lauren McCoy finish 3rd overall (and against 4A teams) in 1:42.45. This was the second fastest time our team has run this season and is 3rd fastest in school history.
Olivia Kramer had a good showing in the 100 meter dash finals, finishing 3rd overall and 1st among 4A runners with a time of 12.49.
Lauren McCoy ran a PR of 57.81 in the 400 meter dash, finishing 5th and inching closer to the school record of 57.44. She was the 3rd fastest 4A runner.
The last event of the evening was the 4x400, where the team of Ashley Hall, Annie Smith, Maddie Nagel, and Lauren McCoy run a 4:08.32 to finish 17th overall (12th in class 4A). That is the 2nd fastest time for the Maroons this season.
SATURDAY
A new day at the Relays means starting with more hurdles! The shuttle hurdle team of Olivia Kramer, Alex Gaskell, Reese Ervin, and Ruby Leman have the fastest qualifying time of 1:03.49 with an almost 2 second to the next fastest team. This was the second fastest time they have run this season.
The Maroons then had the 4x100 relay where the regular group of Ashley Hall, Emily Heitzman, Shea Johnson, and Olivia Kramer finish 2nd in qualifying with a time of 49.14. This was the fastest in class 4A and was the second fastest time they have ran this season.
The 4x800 team of Ella Anliker, Elise Huegerich, Liv Hall, and Sally Gaskell finished 15th overall with a time of 9:54.22. This was their 3rd fastest time this season and was 12th amongst the 4A teams.
The shuttle hurdle team came back and ran a 1:03.20 to become DRAKE RELAYS CHAMPIONS! This was their new second-fastest time of the season and finished a second ahead of Ames.
Reese Ervin ran well in the 400 hurdles, finishing in 1:06.92 and 14th overall. This was her 3rd-fastest time this season and was 6th amongst the 4A runners.
We wrapped up the Relays with the 4x100 finals, where we finished 4th overall in 49.20 (3rd in 4A).
