The temperatures show that spring has finally arrived, and the Maroons took advantage of the conditions over a two meet span: in Ankeny for the Hawkette Invite on Thursday and then in West Des Moines for the Dr. Brooks Relays on Saturday. Both meets featured top end competition, including seeing Ankeny and Valley at both meets. Here is a recap of our top 3 performances, season's bests, and personal records.

On the track: Emily Heitzman set a new PR and broke the 13 second mark in the 100 meter dash, winning the event with a time of 12.93. Maddie Nagel set a new PR of 1:03.15 in the 400 meter dash, putting her 10th all-time for freshmen. Alex Gaskell set a new PR of 15.91 in her 100 meter hurdles victory, which is 12th all-time in school history and 5th all-time for sophomores. Franny Brooks also had a strong showing in her first 100 meter hurdles races, finishing 2nd in 17.92 and is now 9th all-time for freshmen. In the 800 meter run, Elise Huegerich set a new PR of 2:28.54 which is 10th all-time for freshmen. Ava Van Ee finished 2nd in the JV 800 meter run with a new PR of 2:41.79. The Maroons went 1-2 in the 200 meter dash, with Emily Heitzman setting a new PR of 27.08 (7th all-time for sophomores) and Alex Gaskell running her first high school open 200 in 27.54. The 1500 saw a lot best times with Avery Muller (SB 5:11.06), Molly O'Halloran (PR 5:16.88), Ella Chuapoco (PR 6:24.97), and Leah Rhode (SB 7:36.21) all setting new marks for themselves.
In the field: Alex Gaskell continued her consistent high jump season finishing 2nd clearing 5'2, with Ava Van Ee winning the JV high jump clearing 4'6. Ruby Leman finished 2nd in the long jump with a best jump of 15'8.75. Kenzie Dean had a good day in the throws, setting a SB of 30'6.5 in shot put and a new PR of 101'5 in discus. Her 101'5 is good for 5th all-time by a junior in discus.
Relays: Our JV 4x200 team of Amaya Colon-Campos, Berit Kallemeier, Abby Eischeid, and Betty Mateo finished 3rd in 2:00.25. The varsity 4x100 team of Ruby Leman, Emily Heitzman, Shea Johnson, and Ashley Hall blew away the competition, finishing in 50.39 and more than 2 seconds faster than the next squad. The JV 4x100 team of Abby Eischeid, Marion Boot, Franny Brooks, and Amaya Colon-Campos finished 2nd with a time of 53.84.

On the track: Elizabeth Marsh started our individual running events by setting a massive PR in the 3000 of 12:16.91, dropping almost 18 seconds off her time! In the 100 meter dash, Emily Heitman came in 2nd with a time of 13.07. Lauren McCoy smashed the freshman record in the 400 meter dash, running a PR of 58.15 and now sits 2nd all-time in school history. In the 200 meter dash, both Shea Johnson (27.38 and 3rd place) and Ruby Leman (28.35) set new PRs. Reese Ervin set a new SB in the 400 Hurdles of 1:09.02 while Katherine Banker set a new PR in the same event of 1:11.03.
In the field: Alex Gaskell led the way finishing 3rd in the high jump, clearing a SB 5'3 and setting a new sophomore record. Kenzie Dean had a good day, with a SB 34'4.25 in the shot put which puts her 2nd all-time for a junior. In the discus, Yalayzah Lovan had a big gain throwing a SB 106'8 putting her 5th all-time for seniors.
Relays: Our relays carried the day, with all 7 relays setting SB marks and 3 relays breaking the Drake Relays Blue Oval Standard, bringing our total to 5 relays qualified! We opened the meet with the sprint medley of Shea Johnson, Emily Heitzman, Ashley Hall, and Lauren McCoy winning in 1:48.97, getting the Blue Oval Standard and running the 3rd fastest time in school history. The 4x800 team of Ella Anliker, Liv Hall, Elise Huegerich, and Sally Gaskell ran a 9:47.69 to finish second, beating our previous SB time by almost 16 seconds. Our shuttle hurdle team of Olivia Kramer, Alex Gaskell, Reese Ervin, and Ruby Leman drop 3 seconds off of their best time running a 1:04.13 to win the event, and their time puts the quartet 6th in school history. The distance medley team of Marion Boot, Franny Brooks, Maddie Nagel, and Molly O'Halloran improve our SB by 6 seconds with a time of 4:28.13. Our 4x200 team of Alex Gaskell, Shea Johnson, Emily Heitzman, and Ashley Hall became the 2nd relay of the day to set a Blue Oval Standard in a loaded field, finishing in 1:44.69 and dropping 5 seconds off our previous SB. The 4x100 shaved another half of a second off of their time with Ashley Hall, Emily Heitzman, Shea Johnson, and Olivia Kramer coming in 1st in 49.29. We wrapped up the meet with our 4x400 joining the Blue Oval Standard club with Ashley Hall, Ella Anliker, Maddie Nagel, and Lauren McCoy finishing in 4:05.44.
We can't forget to mention the outstanding coaches 4x400 team of Parriott, Patten, Sieperda, Jaworski smashing even their own expectations finishing in 4:36!

Lauren McCoy's 400 meter time of 58.15 is a new Freshman Record and 2nd in school history
Alex Gaskell's high jump clearance of 5'3 is a new Sophomore Record
The Sprint Medley time of 1:48.97 by Shea Johnson, Emily Heitzman, Ashley Hall, and Lauren McCoy is 3rd in school history
The Shuttle Hurdle time of 1:04.13 by Olivia Kramer, Alex Gaskell, Reese Ervin, and Ruby Leman is 6th in school history
Kenzie Dean's throw of 34'4.25 in shot put is 2nd all-time for juniors
Yalayzah Lovan's throw of 106'8 in discus is 5th all-time for seniors
Olivia Kramer's 100 hurdle time of 15.97 is 5th all-time for seniors
Reese Ervin's 400 hurdle time of 1:09.02 improves her standing as 6th all-time for seniors
Emily Heitzman's 200 meter time of 27.08 is 7th all-time for sophomores, and her 100 meter time of 12.93 is tied-7th all-time for sophomores
