What is Social Media
Social Media are any websites or applications that allow the users to share and create content or participate in social networking. Some examples of websites and applications are Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, TikTok.
What is Social Networking
Social Networking is using internet based dedicated websites and application to connect with family, friends customers, clients and colleagues. Social networking can be used for social and or business purposes. It can be used to interact with others and to find people with similar interests.

Facebook
Facebook is a social networking website that is free. Registered users can create a profile and upload text, photos and video. Users can keep in touch with friends and family around the world. Users can send messages, view friends and public profiles, like their posts or make comments on them. Facebook is also used by many businesses to advertise or sell their products or services. Users can also find information or buy products/services through Facebook. Other features include Groups (members with common interests), Events (publicise & invite people to an event), Pages (Public pages about a topic e.g. a school or club), Marketplace (users can post or view adverts).

Instagram
Instagram is a free social networking and photo-sharing application. Users can set up a profile and can keep up to date with what friends, businesses and influencers are doing. Users can set their profile to public (anyone can follow them and see their material) or private (where people must request to follow them). Users can post their photos and media on the site. Items can be shared as 'Posts' that will remain there until deleted by the user or as 'Stories' which will be available to view by others for 24 hours. Instagram has been owned by Facebook since 2012.

Twitter
Twitter is a micro-blogging site. Firstly, a blog is when people use a website to write about any topic they like, for example sport, cookery, fashion, politics etc. On Twitter users are allowed to post short messages up to 280 characters along with photos or video. Posting a message on Twitter is knowing as a Tweet. Users connect with each other by following each other, then they can see what the other person Tweets. Tweets of the people that you follow appear in your account in your timeline feed. An individual person can be tweeted by putting @ symbol in front of their username.

SnapChat
Snapchat is a mobile messaging application that is free to download and send messages with. Snapchat can be used to share photos, videos, text, and drawings. The difference with Snapchat and other messaging apps is that the the sender sets a time on their message (eg 10 seconds) and after this amount of time the message will disappear from the receivers phone.

TikTok
TikTok is a social media app that is used for creating and sharing short videos. The user can also view the videos of other users. It is used for singing, dancing, comedy and lip-syncing videos.

LinkedIn is the largest professional network on the internet. Users create a profile on LinkedIn to showcase their own professional story through their experience, skills and education. Users can join groups, post photos and videos, write articles and organise events. It can be used to find a job, connect with other professionals to form a relationship or strengthen it.
