Garangao Celebration
As we prepare to welcome the holy month of Ramadan, we would like to extend our warm wishes to you and your families.
We are pleased to inform you that DESS will celebrate Garangao on Wednesday, 4th March, in recognition of Qatari traditions and heritage. On this day, pupils are invited to wear Qatar National Dress, Garangao attire, or Qatar National Colours.
As part of the celebration, pupils will take part in Henna activities (for KS1, KS2, and KS3) and Face Painting (for FS and KS1). If you would prefer that your child does not participate in either activity, please inform the class teacher by Thursday, 26th February.
At DESS, as we are a nut-free school, we ask that parents refrain from bringing in any food items to share with the children.
We appreciate your continued support in making this celebration enjoyable and meaningful for all pupils.
Year 6 students will have their photograph taken on Tuesday 3rd March. Students should wear their school uniform and not PE kits.
We’re looking forward to welcoming our Year 6 parents to a hands-on Computing session, where we’ll be exploring micro:bit devices and taking part in some exciting physical computing activities. It will be a great opportunity to see how coding moves beyond the screen and into real-world, interactive projects.

On Tuesday 14 April 2026, DESS will be taking part in the International Kangaroo Mathematics Competition (IKMC), a worldwide mathematics competition.
The IKMC is a multiple-choice assessment for pupils in Years 1 to 8 and is designed to promote mathematical thinking and problem-solving in an engaging way.
If you would like your child to participate, please complete the Google Form attached to Mr Bray’s Parental Correspondence letter link above.
Please note that a fee of 100 QAR (cash only) must be paid to the Finance Office to confirm your child’s entry.
Parents and pupils will be informed of the specific time and session in which their child will participate closer to the event date.
Please be advised that Year 6 students are receiving House Points (rewards) and C2 consequences. I encourage you to view these on the Parent Portal - see images as a guide.
Ministry of Education and Higher Education: My Values Shape my Identity Activity
Year 6 students enjoyed the below activity. Sensitively, we welcome you to discuss this activity at home.
DESS guidelines request that parents and children do not bring in high sugar treats, such as cakes and doughnuts. Instead, birthday gift ideas can include pens, bookmarks, a class book, or a healthier food option such as a sandwich platter. Please speak to your child's class teacher if you are unsure.
In addition to swimming, children will begin outdoor play. Please ensure children have hats and their water bottles.
