Year 5 Weekly Overview
Year 5 Weekly Overview
Dear parents
We have had a great week this week as our school held its annual Mental Health Week, a dedicated time to focus on the emotional and psychological well-being of our students. This initiative is vital in creating a supportive environment where children learn the importance of understanding and managing their feelings. By giving students the tools and awareness of how important a healthy mind is, we empower them to build resilience, develop coping skills, and foster a positive mindset. Through various activities, and discussions, Mental Health Week highlighted the significance of self-care, empathy, and seeking help when needed. It was fantastic to see so many parents engage with the morning mile with their child/children, a great reminder that just immersing yourself in nature and getting some exercise, is a great way to destress. This week has been a heartwarming reminder that mental health matters just as much as physical health.
In the midst of Mental Health Week, we had Charity Day. One of our favourite days on the school calendar, bringing together students, staff, and families to support a meaningful cause. The school grounds were transformed into a vibrant marketplace, bustling with stalls offering delicious food, exciting games, and a variety of treats, all organised by the community. From ice lollies to creative games like Mario Kart, students buzzed around with their friends to see what was on offer. At DESS, our mission is to create global citizens and this was on full display today. All money raised went toward supporting charity, making the event both enjoyable and impactful. It was fantastic to see children to see the community so deeply invested in helping others whilst creating lasting memories with their friends.
Have a lovely weekend.
Kind Regards,
Mr Mernagh
Head of Middle School

At the end of the day, 5A and 5B teachers will bring the children onto the shaded playground area at 2pm (1pm Thursdays) to meet you. 5C and 5D will assemble at the side of block E, outside the 5C classroom. The Year 5 team will be around to point you in the right direction.
Please remember that parents are not to enter classrooms. The school day begins at 7:30am and pick-up is from the shaded playground at 2:00pm. REMINDER: We finish at 1:00pm on a Thursday
