Year 5 Weekly Overview
Year 5 Weekly Overview
Dear Parents,
Sports Week has been an exciting and action-packed time for our students, filled with opportunities to showcase their skills and enthusiasm. From track races to team games, every event highlighted the importance of collaboration and sportsmanship. It was wonderful to see the joy and energy across all year groups as they embraced the spirit of friendly competition.
Throughout the week, students consistently demonstrated our school values in action. They showed respect by cheering for others and following the rules of each event. Responsibility was evident in the way they prepared, stayed focused, and gave their best effort. We were particularly proud of their kindness, supporting teammates and opponents with encouraging words, and their perseverance as they faced challenges head-on, refusing to give up.
Sports Week wasn’t just about winning—it was about learning and growing together. These experiences help our students develop confidence, resilience, and a sense of community. Thank you for your continued support in helping us create these memorable moments.
As a reminder, next Monday is the last day before the half-term. We hope you have a restful and enjoyable break with family and friends. We look forward to welcoming students back, refreshed and ready for the next half of the term!
Have a lovely weekend.
Kind Regards,
Mr Mernagh
Head of Middle School
Due to matters beyond our control, Green Day will now take place on Sunday 16th February
As part of our 'Are we damaging our Earth?' topic, Year 5 will take part in a 'Green day'. This will be a day dedicated towards understanding how we can act contribute to the sustainability of our planet, as global citizens.
The children are invited to wear either green clothing or clothes made fom recycled materials. (The more creative, the better!)
In the lead up to this day, we ask that parents can collect any recycled bottles, cardboard, toilet paper rolls or yoghurt pots for some of the activities we have planned.
On Thursday 20th February, parents are invited to come into class between 7:30am and 8:00am to look at some of the children's work from Green Day. We look forward to welcoming you.
Thank you to all the parents who took the time to come and support your child on Monday. The children displayed great determination and enthusiasm throughout the day.
All pictures can be found in the usual photo folders below.
Over the next few weeks, Year 5 will be completing their very exciting design and technology project: biscuit making! This will involve the children bringing their biscuit recipe designs to life in the kitchen. We will be providing the ingredients to make the biscuits along with some additional toppings. With your permission, the children are welcome to bring additional toppings to add to their biscuits but please ensure that they are nut-free. We will be providing all biscuit ingredients, chocolate chips, cooking chocolate and cocoa powder.
Here are the dates of when the children will be baking:

At the end of the day, 5A and 5B teachers will bring the children onto the shaded playground area at 2pm (1pm Thursdays) to meet you. 5C and 5D will assemble at the side of block E, outside the 5C classroom. The Year 5 team will be around to point you in the right direction.
