Year 5 Weekly Overview
Year 5 Weekly Overview
Dear Parents,
I hope this newsletter finds you well. We are so close to the end of term where children, parents and staff can recharge their batteries in preparation for the final term.
Reports
Our students have been working diligently throughout the term which will culminate in an end of term report next week. This is an important time to celebrate achievements both academically and personally and discuss areas for development. You will be able to sign up for parent consultations which take place 14th and 15th April with specialists also available on April 16th.
Science Show
Last week, our students had the opportunity to attend an amazing science show organised by Mrs MacGillicuddy in honour of British Science Week. This interactive experience gave our students the chance to witness lots of demonstrations that sparked curiosity.
Five Years Since COVID-19 Lockdown in Qatar: How Far We Have Come
It is hard to believe it is 5 years this weekend since Qatar went into its first lockdown in Qatar. I remember it vividly as my son was born the day after. While the impact of the pandemic was undeniably challenging, it has also been a time of resilience, growth, and adaptation for all of us. Sometimes it is worth pausing and realising how far we have come. Our Middle School children would have been massively affected by this and to see them currently flourishing, is something to be incredibly proud of.
Thank you for your continued support.
Have a lovely weekend.
Kind Regards,
Mr Mernagh
Head of Middle School

Ramadan snack-times will be shorter, in line with the reduced day. Please consider this when you pack your child's lunch for the five hour school day.
Please also note that the school canteen will be closed during the month of Ramadan.
On Tuesday, Year 5 had the pleasure of listening to Jose from Deep Qatar who spoke to the children about sustainability in Qatar and the importance of 'reduce, reuse, recycle'. This followed on perfectly from our Singing Sand Dunes litter pick in January as the children were able to make links between their experience and some the daunting statstics Jose presented. The children were attentive and engaged throughout, and asked some excellent questions at the end of the talk.
Today, Mr Hatchman led an assembly to the whole of Year 5. This was a great opportunity for us to reflect on the year so far. We spoke about:
How to deal with friendship fires using UR Strong
The importance of personal hygiene
E-Safety reminders and the use of Whatsapp (Led by Mrs Loader)
Transition into Year 6 (Led by Year 6 students)

In Year 5, children come into class by themselves in the morning. The class teachers and TA’s will be in the classroom ready to greet the children.
At the end of the day, 5A and 5B teachers will bring the children onto the shaded playground area at 2pm (1pm Thursdays) to meet you. 5C and 5D will assemble at the side of block E, outside the 5C classroom. The Year 5 team will be around to point you in the right direction.
Please remember that parents are not to enter classrooms. The school day begins at 7:30am and pick-up is from the shaded playground at 2:00pm. REMINDER: We finish at 1:00pm on a Thursday
Please bring a full water bottle to school each day.
Please bring a hat everyday.
