What is BIPOC?
DAHS BIPOC Student Union aims to build authentic and lasting solidarity among Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC), in order to undo Native invisibility, anti-Blackness, dismantle white supremacy and advance racial justice. Our goal is to create change in our community with a grass-roots philosophy that celebrates diversity while also acknowledging our shared experiences as and with People of Color in a homogeneous environment.Â
When does BIPOC meet?
BIPOC meets monthly during Flex time. BIPOC also meets outside of standard school hours bi-monthly -- one meeting is an officer's meeting and one is a membership meeting.
How does BIPOC benefit students?
BIPOC supports students, staff, and the community! Here are some things we have done thus far that exemplify this:
District-wide clothing drive -- over 1,000 new items collected for Afghani refugees
District-wide food drive - collected food for the DeForest/Windsor food bank
Video teaching about microaggressions - used for staff in-service
Cultural Fair -- involved many different cultural events, foods, art, games etc. had strong school and community attendance
