Children will invent their own holiday
Learners will listen to and complete a short introduction about a holiday in a different country and demonstrate their learning by responding to a prompt about that holiday.
Soil as a natural resource: How do we use soil? What do we need/use it for? How is it helpful?
Choose: Students will write a letter or card to a veteran.
Act: Students will celebrate a veteran. Those letters or cards will be delivered to the VA.
Reflect: How do we connect to one another through our differences?
Voice: Students will be able to choose what they say to veterans while writing letters/cards.
Choice: Students will choose what they want and need for holiday gifts.
Ownership: Students will reflect on their own use of resources. Students will reflect on their own cultural expressions of holiday traditions. Students will create their own holiday.
Form: What is it like? The understanding that everything has a form with recognizable features that can be observed, identified, described and categorized.
Function: How does it work? The understanding that everything has a purpose, a role or way of behaving that can be investigated.
Perspective: What are the points of view? The understanding that knowledge is moderated by perspectives; different perspectives lead to different interpretations, understandings and findings; perspectives may be individual, group, cultural or disciplinary.
Reading: Letter and List Writing; Making Connections
Math: making observations, noticing differences, representing amounts
Science: Natural Resources, collecting and recording data.
Social Studies: Holidays & traditions around the world
Art: Self-expression through visual mediums
Music: Self-expression through auditory mediums
PE: Self-expression through physical movement (dance, sports, etc.)
