Understand why recycling is important, Students will write a paragraph explaining the final goal of recycling.
How will recycling help the planet stay healthy?
Voice: questioning how they will recycle: Parking lot with post its
Choice: Students will select the type of assessment that shows the understanding of the central idea.
Ownership: Students recycling project.
Choose: What they are going to recycle, How can they reduce energy waste, How can they repurpose materials instead of recycling.
Act: Students to encourage family to recycle at home
Reflect: How recycling helps our family (reduce water bill, start a compost pile)
Causation: Why is it like this? The understanding that things do not just happen, that there are causal relationships at work, and that actions have consequences.
Change: How is it changing? The understanding that change is the process of movement from one state to another. It is universal and inevitable.
Responsibility: What is our responsibility? The understanding that people make choices based on their understandings, and the actions they take as a result do make a difference.
Reading: Text features, non-fiction, informational texts
Math: measurement, graphing
Science: Finding natural resources, effects of pollution
Social Studies: Finding natural resources, effects of pollution
Art: Creating art structures from recycle
Music: make instruments with recycled materials
