Understand why recycling is important and how using recycled materials can save energy. Students will write a paragraph explaining the final goal of recycling.
Voice: Questioning how they will recycle: Student responses will be posted in the classroom.
Choice: Students will select the type of assessment that shows the understanding of the central idea.
Ownership: Students recycling project.
Choose: What they are going to recycle, How can they reduce energy waste, How can they repurpose materials instead or recycling.
Act: Students to encourage family to recycle at home
Reflect: How recycling helps our family (reduce water bill, start a compost pile)
Causation: The understanding that things do not just happen, that there are causal relationships at work, and that actions have consequences.

Science/SS- Finding natural resources, effects of pollution
Reading- Text features, non-fiction, informational texts.
