During 2nd quarter PBIS has seen an increase in students unprepared for class, because they do not have a Chromebook for a number of reasons, such as: Chromebooks becoming mysteriously damaged, not at school, not charged, or waiting for a new one to arrive. PBIS has started picking 3 students each week to earn a prize for being Accountable and Responsible with their Chromebooks. For these students to earn this prize their Chromebooks must be 1) here at school, 2) in good working condition, 3) charged, and 4) they must be able to log in.
In the month of November 1,041 of our students learned about setting boundaries in their math classes. They learned how to set boundaries with others, and why it is important to respect others boundaries.
62% of our students said they have had to set some sort of boundaries with their classmates, or friends. 62% of our students also reported that they had classmates, or friends cross boundries that they have set.
How to set boundaries:
Say exactly what you mean so others understand. Use a serious tone.
Don’t let others try to change your mind or make you feel bad about your boundaries. If you don’t like it, you don’t have to take it.
Use I-statements. For example - “I feel uncomfortable when…”
If people keep crossing your boundaries, then maybe you shouldn't be friends. True friends respect your boundaries.
In the month of December students will be giving back to ther community, as well as showing kindness by making holiday cards during their ELA class.
Each year DMS students make these holiday cards to spread some holiday cheer. After students are finished making cards, they are delivered the week before winter break to assisted living and nursing homes in and around the D300 community.
Our holiday school store is this month! School Store will be held December 5th and 6th in the IMC before school for all grade levels. School Store times are 8:20am - 8:55am. Students can come into the building early if they have their Cardunal Cash with them.
School store is also looking for any donations. Anything from school supplies to food items. If you are providing a food item it needs to be individually packaged, and from the store. Please bring any donations to the main office, and lable it for PBIS.
Thank you to everyone to who donated to the food drive to make it a success. This year DMS was able to donate approximately 1,658 items to the D300 Food Pantry. Our grade level winners are:
6th Grade - Mrs. Black's science class with 105 items.
7th Grade - Mrs. Neuzil's math class with a whopping 204 items.
8th Grade - Mrs. Blomquist's social studies class with 166 items.
