While at CHS, Nanako Kawasaki was very involved with the instrumental side of the high school’s music department. For four years Nanako played trumpet with the concert and marching band. She was also a member of the brass quintet and jazz band for three years. She played in the orchestra for two years, and was a member of the pit band for one year. Nanako was additionally involved with the stage crew for three years. In her junior and senior years she was a trumpet section leader in the marching band, during this time she also qualified for the Tri M Music Honor Society.
Nanako continued her education at The College of New Jersey where she is getting her Bachelor’s degree in accounting. After graduating in May 2019 she will be working at an accounting firm where she will be focusing on taxes.
She still has not forgotten her musical background and continues to play her trumpet and the piano in her leisure time. She has also sang at many school functions.
Nanako’s favorite memory involves Band Fest 2011 where the marching band performed a video game themed set, which she recalls to have had awesome music. A memorable part of the drill was the tetris themed movements where the band moved like the pieces moved in the game.
