Purpose and Goal
The 2025 Hough Mental Health Summit will take place in November 2025
This is an opportunity for students to utilize a school day to focus on themselves and their mental health. This summit was the brainchild of our school social worker Carrie Bushell. Ms. Bushell's vision is for students to have access to creative and engaging sessions that allows them to prioritize their emotional well-being and learn about mental heath and coping strategies.

All students will report to class each block.
Summit Attendees will be dismissed to each session after the start of the block.
Students need to wait for an announcement prior to moving to their designated session.

In today's fast-paced world, the demands on high school students can often lead to feelings of stress and anxiety. Tejas Yoga Lab recognizes the importance of addressing these challenges and believes in the profound impact that yoga and meditation can have on mental well-being. Their presentation is designed to introduce students to these ancient practices and empower them with techniques to manage stress effectively. Students will participate in breathing and imaginary, Yoga, and mediation.
Location: Upper A Workroom
Meditation Practice: Our meditation segment will introduce students to mindfulness techniques and demonstrate ways they can incorporate meditation into their daily routines to assist with stress, regulating emotions, and controlling other mental health concerns.

If Tiktok says you have clinical anxiety, it must be true, right? Not quite!
Feeling anxious and sad is completely normal at times. But when are these feelings too much, and what can you do when they feel overwhelming? Katy Wogatzke LCMHCA, a licensed therapist from Camel City Counseling in Cornelius, will share information about the difference between feeling anxious and sad, and having clinical depression and anxiety. We’ll also chat about ways to get support for yourself and ways to support your friends if they need it.

Join your SAP Counselor in exploring your resilience and awareness of substance among youth. You will explore facts and myths about substances through an interactive activity. Then participants will engage in a silent interactive activity of "Where you stand on resilience, peer interaction, and self-awareness". This session requires engagement from all participants, where you will be required to stand and move around. .
Location: Chorus room
Teens will learn what makes up a toxic relationship, how to identify red flags, what is most important in a healthy relationship, and resources for abusive relationships. Teens will take part in a series of discussions, games, and group activities that foster interactive learning.

Location: Upper C Workroom
Enjoy a brief journey about how we have the power to manager our emotions within. Using techniques like mindfulness and practicing many mindfulness techniques, and exercises we hope each participant walks away feeling as if they can tap into their inner peace no matter where they are. You will also learn fun and interesting ways to practice mindfulness.

Does being a student just feel impossible sometimes? Do you struggle with focus, attention, time management, and memory challenges? If so, ADHD might be on your brain’s menu. Whitt Daniel will share information on what IS and ISN’T ADHD, and how it shows up for people in ways you may not think it does. We’ll also chat about how to ensure you get the correct type of support along the way.

Are you an athlete wanting to take your sports career to the next level or have a passion for mental health? Regardless, you understand how crucial our mind is in sports. During this breakout group, we will uncover how emotional wellness plays a crucial role in athletic performance. From the pressures of competition to the power of resilience, we’ll tackle the mental hurdles athletes face and explore strategies for boosting psychological well-being. Whether you are preparing for the collegiate level, returning from an injury or just appreciate sports, this talk will provide education and support to enhance your mental game.
Location: C101
Through the use of the sources of strength wheel we will focus on positive friends and mentors. Learn how to develop health and positive relationships with peers and create trusted adult relationships which many times transform into mentors. All while playing games and having fun!
