The Zen Den is a safe, supervised space where Hough students can go when they are feeling stressed, anxious, or other emotions prevent them from maintaining appropriate focus in the classroom.
The Zen Den is located in the Hough Student Services Suite and open during normal school hours. Students must notify an adult to enter.
Inform your teacher that you need to go to the Zen Den.
Upon entering Student Services check in with Mrs. Hunt.
Your counselor will be notified that you have entered the Zen Den and will stop in to check on you if needed.
You will be allowed to stay in the Zen Den for a maximum of 15 min. If you are able to work through the current challenge, you can request a pass to transition back to class.
If you need additional support, notify Mrs. Hunt, and a counselor will meet with you to provide further counseling support.
To give students the opportunity to build resiliency habits and strategies to cope with future stressors
To reinforce the tenants of our Sources of Strength wheel and school wide initiative.
To breakdown the stigma of mental health issues by normalizing self-care and mental wellness in the school environment.
To provide resources that promote positive coping habits and the learning of resiliency skills.
We are always looking for ways to grow the Zen Den.
If you have suggestions, or would like to donate to the space please contact Daina Woullard at dainac.woullard@cms.k12.nc.us.
We are gracious for more plants, artwork, fidget gadgets (ie. stress balls, pop its), motivational literature, mints, etc.
