College Admissions Exams
ACT TEST PREP INFORMATION
On March 4, 2024, all 11th graders will take the ACT at school. The ACT is a standardized test taken for college entrance, and it is also used by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Board of Education to determine the success of schools in achieving diploma endorsements from the state of North Carolina for their graduating seniors. These endorsements require a 22 Composite Score on the Reading section of the exam. In order to help our Juniors prepare for success on this assessment, William A. Hough High School has several supports that we encourage students to take advantage of this Spring:

Find directions to self-enroll here:
Students will need to login to Edgenuity using their username and password:
Username: CmsXXXXXXXXX (Student ID Number)
Password: XXXXXXXXX (Student ID Number)
Students then need to select Add a Course and enter the following code.

PSAT
All 10th and 11th Grade students will take the PSAT in the Fall of each school year.
When to Expect Scores
Students can get PSAT/NMSQT scores in December, 2023 depending on their location.
How to Access Your Scores
If you provided your email address on your answer sheet on test day, you'll receive an email notifying you of when your scores are available.
The email will have a unique access code that will connect you to your scores online. If you haven't already done so, you'll be asked to set up a free College Board account before you can view your scores.

How to Register for the ACT
Step 1: Go to actstudent.org
Step 2: Set up an ACT Student Web Account.
Step 3: Make sure you register for the ACT PLUS Writing.
Step 4: Print your admission ticket and bring it with you to the test center on test day.

Juniors who are administered the ACT at Hough can use this score for college admission. This is an official ACT. To gain access to your scores you must:
Go to actstudent.org
Click on Create a New Account.
Click No when asked if you have ever registered for the ACT. Click YES, when asked if you have taken the ACT.
Follow the directions moving forward.
*Note: You will need either your ACT ID # (located on the paper copy of your scores), or your Social Security Number to link your scores to your new account.
How to Register for the SAT
Step 1: Go to collegeboard.org
Step 2: Set up a username and password.
Step 3: Select the test you would like to take
SAT Reasoning Test for College Admission
SAT Subject Test if your college/university requests a specific one.
Step 4: Print your admission ticket and make sure you have it for test day.

Fee Waivers
Please contact Mrs. Hunt in Student Services, if you believe you may qualify for a fee waiver.
ACT
Students can only receive 2 ACT fee waivers throughout their high school career.
You cannot use a fee waiver for late registration!
Eligible students can also recieve up to 4 College Application Fee Waivers that can be used for participating universities that will accept them to waive the application fee.
SAT
Students can only receive 2 SAT fee waivers throughout their high school career.
