Purpose and Goal
The 2025 Hough Mental Health Summit will take place on November 19th, 2025
This is an opportunity for students to utilize a school day to focus on themselves and their mental health. This summit was the brainchild of our school social worker Carrie Bushell. Ms. Bushell's vision is for students to have access to creative and engaging sessions that allows them to prioritize their emotional well-being and learn about mental heath and coping strategies.

Summit Attendees will be dismissed to each session after the start of the block.
Students need to wait for an announcement prior to moving to their designated session.

What are eating disorders and the differences between disordered eating habits and a diagnosable eating disorder. Myths about Eating Disorders/debunking these. How to build a better relationship with food and our bodies when we are struggling. Education will be provided on Intuitive Eating and Movement to help with these. Resources for support will be shared.

Through the use of the sources of strength wheel we will focus on positive friends and mentors. Learn how to develop healthy and positive relationships with peers and create trusted adult relationships which many times transform into mentors. All while playing games and having fun!

We will kickstart our session by delving into the science of stress, helping students understand its physical and emotional impacts on their bodies. By building awareness around stress, we can take the first step toward managing it. Yoga Practice: Tejas Yoga Lab's experienced instructors will guide students through a gentle yet invigorating yoga session. Participants will explore a series of postures and movements that are specifically tailored to release tension, improve flexibility, and promote overall physical and mental well-being. Meditation Practice: Our meditation segment will introduce students to mindfulness techniques.

We will be talking about what peer pressure and how it affects teens. We will review the different types of peer pressure and how they show up. We will discuss ways to handle peer pressure when teens are faced with it. Students will be encouraged to think outside the box, help better understand peer pressure and most importantly have fun!

Participants will gain awareness of the prevalence of youth nicotine and cannabis use and recognize that most of their peers do not use these substances. Recognize the importance of remaining substance-free. Realize the physical, social, emotional, and mental consequences of nicotine and cannabis use to the developing adolescent brain. Learn about addiction and why young people are particularly vulnerable.

Students will learn how to manage stress when it comes to the recruiting process, game day performance , and expectations from coaches and family. The pressures of competition to the power of resilience, we’ll tackle the mental hurdles athletes face and explore strategies for boosting psychological well-being. Whether you are preparing for the collegiate level, returning from an injury , this talk will provide education and support to enhance your mental game.

Teens will learn what makes up a toxic relationship, how to identify red flags, what is most important in a healthy relationship, and resources for abusive relationships. Teens will take part in a series of discussions, games, and group activities that foster interactive learning. Are you looking for ways to decrease anxiety, increase resilency, and re center yourself, if so we got you covered. We will have stations on how aromatherpy can help you realx and ease anxiety. In addition to animal therapy, and plant therapy. Plant therapys is the use of plants, gardening, and nature-based activities to promote physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional well-being. This holistic approach utilizes the therapeutic effects of nature to help people reduce anxiety, improve cognitive functions, and build self-confidence.
